💨Workplace air monitoring for a recycled aluminium alloy producer

One of our occupational hygienists worked with a specialist foundry producing high-purity, recycled aluminium alloys for the aerospace and aviation industries. The goal was to confirm that metal fume and dust levels were safely below workplace exposure limits.

During the site visit, our consultant conducted personal and static air monitoring to assess exposure in workers’ breathing zones and the ambient environment. The results were visualised to highlight the effectiveness of existing controls and to identify opportunities for targeted improvements.

Understand the risks of hexavalent chromium 👇

Hexavalent chromium, also known as chromium (VI), chromium 6, or Cr(VI), is chromium in any chemical compound where it is found in its +6 oxidation state. It is used or generated in several instances including in manufacturing processes, welding activities, spray paints and some pigments.

Hexavalent chromium is included in the REACH directive as it is a known human carcinogen. It is an SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern), and the waste produced from industrial processes involving it poses a serious threat to human health and has a toxic effect on animals, plants, and microorganisms.
