A huge thank you to everyone who applied to be our Digital Content Storyteller.

Andrew and I read every single application, and one of the things we enjoyed most was getting an insight into so many different practices, perspectives and approaches to storytelling.

And, genuinely, it expanded our thinking.

Every person who applied could have brought something unique to the role. Different skills, different ways of seeing things, different creative practices and different ideas about what digital storytelling can be.

It was also a useful reminder for us about recruitment more broadly: sometimes it’s very easy to be prescriptive about what you think you want or need before you actually understand the full landscape of what’s out there.

So, for us, shortlisting couldn’t simply be about who “scored the highest” against a predetermined idea of the role. It was also about asking: who might challenge our thinking? Who might bring a perspective we hadn’t considered? Who could help us think differently about how we share the stories of the projects we work on, and importantly, the people we make them with?

That made shortlisting incredibly difficult, but also a really valuable process.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time, thought and creativity to an application. We know how much work goes into applying for freelance opportunities, and we’re grateful that so many people chose to share their practice with us 🙏🏻

Applications are OPEN! 🎉

We’re excited to be launching our brand-new Digital Content Storyteller Placement. A paid opportunity for an early-career creative to work alongside Spin Arts, our artists and communities, capturing the real stories behind our work.

Whether you’re into film, photography, podcasting, social media, writing, or something we haven’t even thought of yet, we’d love to hear from you.

✨ Key details:

* Sept 2026 – Mar 2027

* Hybrid working (remote + some travel across the North)
* Applicants should be based in West Yorkshire

This opportunity is all about potential. You do not need extensive arts sector experience, just curiosity, creativity, and a passion for telling stories that matter.

We welcome applications from people who are underrepresented within the arts, including Black, Asian and ethnically diverse people, Disabled people, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, LGBTQ+ people, and others protected under the Equality Act 2010. Really pleased that Spin Arts is working alongside Northern Rascals as part of the first Dance in the North Co-commission.

Dance in the North brings together ten arts organisations committed to developing and presenting dance across the North. Last year the consortium launched a new £12,500 co-commission, and it’s great to see Northern Rascals announced as the first recipients with their new work, Coiners.

Inspired by the extraordinary true story of the Cragg Vale Coiners, an 18th-century counterfeiting gang from the Pennine hills, Coiners is already shaping up to be an exciting piece of work.

One of the most valuable aspects of this commission is the opportunity to explore a genuinely collaborative relationship between artists, producers and organisations that share the same geography. As producers, we often spend much of our time advocating for artists, building confidence in ideas and creating opportunities for work to happen. This model allows everyone to do that together, pooling knowledge, networks and expertise around a single artistic vision.

At a time when resources are stretched, collaboration like this feels more important than ever. It creates space to think more ambitiously, strengthens relationships across the sector, and hopefully lays the foundations for work that has a longer life and wider impact.

As Anna and Sam put it:

“We’re excited to use this opportunity to dream bigger, take artistic risks and deepen our relationships with communities across the North. The support of the Dance in the North partners will give us the time, space and expertise to explore where Coiners wants to go, while ensuring the work remains rooted in the people, places and stories that inspired it.”

Find out more about Coiners and the commission at www.northernrascals.com/news.

Supported by the Dance in the North Co-commission.

Throwing it back to 2015, when Spin Arts teamed up with the brilliant Anna Olejinicki from Hype Dance to create Savage Beauty – an outdoor dance and boxing show performed in a boxing ring that toured festivals up and down the country.

Made in collaboration with Ingle Gym, it brought together two worlds that, on the surface, seem very different, but share so much: discipline, resilience, rhythm and precision. We found athleticism and artistry in both forms.

Eleven years on, Spin Arts is still packing a punch. 🥊

We’re incredibly grateful to all the artists, communities and partners who have been part of our journey. We never forget that our sustainability has been built relationship by relationship, funding bid by funding bid, and project by project, navigating every twist and turn the sector has thrown our way.

Looking back, we cherish every project more than ever. We’re still slightly amazed we’re here, but also deeply grateful for the experience that has shaped the way we work. Over the years we’ve developed a practice that isn’t producer-led, artist-led, community-led or demand-led. Instead, it recognises that all of those perspectives matter, sitting alongside one another and being valued and resourced in equal measure.

Here’s to the next round!

We’re really pleased to share that Eckhard Thiemann has been appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees at DeNada Dance Theatre.

Eckhard brings extensive experience across the sector, with leadership roles spanning The Lowry, Shubbak Festival and CODA Oslo International Dance Festival. His appointment comes at an important point for the company, as it continues to grow its reach and develop new work, including *Edward II*.

As long-standing collaborators, it’s been a privilege for us at Spin Arts to support Carlos Pons Guerra and the company’s journey. We’re looking forward to seeing what this next phase makes possible.

Eckhard shared:
“I am delighted to be joining DeNada at such an exciting moment. The company has built a powerful reputation for bold, theatrical and deeply engaging work that resonates with audiences. I look forward to supporting Carlos and the team to strengthen the company’s foundations, broaden its reach and connect with ever wider audiences, while staying true to its distinctive artistic voice.”

Carlos adds:
‘I have always valued Eckhard’s support and keen artistic insight. I have also admired his excellent work in creating programmes and curating festivals that voice the underrepresented; these often include queerness and transculturality- which is exactly what DeNada is about. I am very excited a about the next three years ahead, and this new adventure we’re embarking on. I’m confident that with Eckhard at the helm we will reach great new heights of impact, dancing, and of course, flashes of sequins. ¡Vámonos!’

From us at Spin Arts:
“Having supported DeNada from its origins, we look forward to welcoming Eckhard as Chair of the Board and to this new chapter for the company. Eckhard’s sector expertise is the perfect catalyst to help us orchestrate DeNada’s growth, ensuring the company’s work continues to reach new audiences and leave a lasting impact within the communities we serve.”

Welcome, Eckhard.
