What a weekend! Over 40,000 steps walked across Selby and Sherburn providing on the ground audience engagement and comms work at the Now Then! Festivals. It was so lovely to see real-time reactions from the community, especially kids who had engaged with artists in their schools bringing friends and family to see the shows. A huge thank you to everyone who supported and came along.

All photos (except for the dodgy one of me at the start) with thanks to Kirkpatrick Photography.

Made possible and free thanks to funding from Arts Council England North Yorkshire Council and UKSPF.

What a positive morning working with Up For Yorkshire to announce that Chief Executive, Chris, has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the King’s Birthday Honours for services to charity and community in Yorkshire.

It’s a corker of a year for the charity as it’s also its 50th anniversary.

Thanks to Chris with trusting me to work on such a big announcement and congratulations to him for a very well deserved recognition.

Thursday was jam-packed for me! I spent most of the day at Tadcaster Barn for the Then Creative Symposium, taking part in a fantastic workshop with Odd Arts to help the place-partnership reflect on the programme so far, along with hearing some really interesting place-partnership managers talk about their experiences. Then, I headed over to Up For Yorkshire 's Community House for it's High Street Vibrancy Research Sharing event.

Both events showed me just how many hard-working and passionate people there are across Selby, Sherburn and Tadcaster ready to keep shouting about the great things happening across the district and what's needed to secure more investment.

Now Then! Symposium funded by Arts Council England, UKSPF and North Yorkshire Council.

The High Street Research was funded by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority and David Skaith

It's not very often you get to work on an announcement that literally stops traffic! Nothing like spending a sunny day waiting for a red light, shouting "NOW!" and running into the middle of the street to get a photo on the High Street!

Last week I had the pleasure of working with Up For Yorkshire and Drax Group UK to announce the charity had been successful in securing £149,837 in new funding from the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority and the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith as part of the Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund.

This funding will further develop the charity's Shop for the Future project. In addition, Drax have contributed £10,000.

I've spent the last few years working in Selby and I love Up for Yorkshire's ethos of building on what’s already here and making it easier for people to see it. The announcement has already had over 30k views on Facebook, with 92% of those to non-followers, so the programme of activity is already engaging new people before it has even started!

I'm thrilled to discover that audience figures rose by approximately 75% for Selby Light this year.

It was a pleasure to lead on the Marcomms for this huge free event for the town and to be able to develop on my learnings from marketing the 2025 event. The marketing campaign included print, Meta ads, organic social content, press and partnerships.

A big congratulations to the whole team and all involved, I was so proud to be walking around with my branded tabard on opening night!

Selby Light featured Homeward by Imitating the dog, Through the Liquid Crystal Display by Jazmin Morris and a trail of artworks from students of Selby College.
It was co-produced by Now Then! and Mediale in partnership with Selby Abbey and Selby College.

It was free thanks to funding by Arts Council England , The National Lottery Heritage Fund, North Yorkshire Council and UKSPF.

I’m thrilled to once again be leading on the marketing and comms for Selby Light and 2026 is set to be a cracker!

💡This time, client Now Then Creative is teaming up with imitating the dog, the internationally acclaimed company behind some of the UK’s most stunning projection and storytelling works, to create a major new artwork which can be experienced for FREE.

🌠Rooted in the voices of local people and brought to life through light, sound and imagination, this will be a celebration of who we are and the place we call home.

✨An experience inside and outside the town’s iconic building, followed by a trail of lit-up artworks through the Abbey Quarter.

This event is being co-produced with Selby based digital art agency Mediale, and in close partnership with Selby Abbey and will celebrate the stories of the community.

SAVE THE DATE- It will light up Selby Abbey on 26th, 27th and 28th February 2026, 6pm - 9pm. No tickets required, the event will take place at intervals over the three hours, so arrive throughout the evening.

Made possible and free thanks to funding from Arts Council England, National Lottery Heritage Fund, UKSPF and North Yorkshire Council.

⭐️6,000⭐️ That’s the number of people that attended free to access Now Then! events in July, August and September alone, and as the Marcomms Lead, I’m pretty chuffed with that!

Funded projects like this one have their challenges when it comes to marketing; be that budgets, multiple partners or tight deadlines, but knowing 6,000 people got to experience world-class culture on their doorstep makes any tough day more than worth it.

🍿Watch the film and see what people had to say about just one of the summer events.

So much more to come this year and next, so proud to be a part of it.

Film commissioned by me, Chloe, and produced by Kirkpatrick Photography.

Huge thanks to our community partners Sherburn and Villages Communities Trust and and to our funders and UKSPF who made it possible to make the whole day featured here free.

Film features:

Athelstan Primary School with and Lisa Wilton

Monk Fryston C of E Primary School with artist Amily Galhand

Sherburn High School working with artist Sally Wright
and Hafifa Ahmed

📣Coverage achieved! Front cover and page six of The Yorkshire Post features client Now Then! Festival Selby today. The team, especially Tess Farley and Hazel Colquhoun have worked so hard to put together such a high quality arts festival and they really deserve the recognition. Thank you Marisa Cashill and Ruby Braithwaite for the support and for the mention of the next festival - Sherburn - 17th August.

Did you know I am an MCIM Member of The Chartered Institute of Marketing? This level of membership is awarded to “experienced Marketing Managers, working at strategic level, who set the direction of marketing activity and help organisations accomplish their targets”. That being said, I am very hands-on and love to implement strategy as well as create it.

👉You may have guessed, but I’m telling you this because I am excited to say that I have some availability coming up from September. Plus, for the first time in over four years, this includes my Side-Kick package (perfect for organisations who find themselves particularly busy in the run up to Christmas).

Take a look at my packages and the sectors I work in here: https://www.commskick.com/ourpackages

In reaction to Katy Perry winning the Vanguard Award at last night's VMA's (and that incredible performance), I'm throwing it back to the time I ran the PR campaign for Kettu Studios. Kettu Studios created the stop motion animation video for Katy Perry's song "Resilient" back in 2020: Founder, Virpi, spotted this was a good news story and commissioned me to run a PR campaign about it. The video was a global, women-led collaboration, directed by USA based Aya Tanimura, commissioned by Hound Content production house, and created by Kettu Studios who worked in isolation bubbles, filming in Skipton, North Yorkshire, for two months during the Covid-19 pandemic. The music video went on to win a Royal Television Society Award and the media loved the story. It was a pleasure to liaise with press on behalf of Kettu Studios and a lot of fun to visit the animation studio (once I was finally able to) during those weird, pandemic times. Congratulations to Katy Perry - when women support other women, it truly has a ripple effect! (Main image credit to Jo Denison).
