SoundCycle is six months old!

4 Tonnes of musical equipment processed, hundreds of instrument donations, and dozens of schools and music projects helped.

SoundCycle CIC are now service providers to school and college music departments across the district, helping to improve music provision in classrooms and saving broken instruments from landfill.

Thank you everyone for your instrument and equipment donations, our community have the kindest people!
It's been a hectic week for SoundCycle CIC, with a flat tyre as I went on collections en route to a charity gig for 4Louis with Elements. in Brighouse, but together we raised over £1200 for the baby-loss charity.
Band leader Gav re-donated some Marshall combos that helped him start his music school and asked if Andy the technician could repair his band's power amp and mixing desk.
On the way to the gig I met Sylvia and Ieuan from The Mount Community Group thanks to a call from Ged they donated their Marshall MG100DFX Half stack.
BCB Radio's Michelle Dalgety kindly gave a Ukulele, Melodica and percussion.
Pete called by and donated his Superlative Drum kit with case of hardware
ACDC tribute Dirty Deeds' guitarist Mick Walsh gave his son's PEAVEY Raptor Guitar and ZOOM multi FX guitar pedal
Sue Small at Woodville Community donated a bass drum!
I met Adrian Playle who kindly offered a keyboard, mixing desk, Ukulele and asked for Andy to modify a 1960s valve-powered record amp to become a guitar combo!
Harrogate Guitar legend and old friend Martin Rose called by to bring guitars, a PEAVEY PA, stands, all sorts! Martin is responsible for stage and sound at Saltaire Festival and has offered so much help and support since SoundCycle CIC began.

Yes, this was a long post today but it goes to show that Yorkshire's music community support young musicians' education and believe in a new life for unwanted and faulty gear.
Thank you so much everyone, your items are now in service before redistribution. Bradford and the surrounding areas are benefitting from your instruments, school provision and education is improving, one department at a time.

I represented SoundCycle at the North's biggest community event, Saltaire Festival last week, providing equipment and organising three stages over nine days as part of our collaboration with The Leap.
Fixing broken strings, jack sockets and telling thousands of festival-goers about our circularity in music project.

A fantastic response, with many contacting to offer unwanted instruments and equipment and new enquiries for our help from Bradford schools, music projects and not-for-profit groups.

Kurt Max (pictured) from Atomic Blues - band UK used our 1980s Hohner guitar as a back-up when he broke a string.

Our six month anniversary is coming up in October and we're proud of the impact that Bradford's wonderful music community has made so far.

The week's donations!

Pic1 Bradford Bass legend Scott Johnson and wife Madeleine brought some lovely basses, guitars, amps and speakers, stored for years in the loft before they move house

Pic2 Band tour tech Rob Mills just got back from a European tour with High Parasite and collected a lovely acoustic guitar and drum seat for two young people at his mental health charity Healthy Minds in Halifax

Pic3 Sophie Cooper parted with her beloved Trombone and an amp left at her Halifax home, wishing them to inspire young musicians. I collected them en route to a gig at Westgate Quarter Halifax to avoid unnecessary fuel use

Pic4 DJ and singer Cheryl Holland brought a spare SM58 microphone when she performed at Saltaire Festival on Saturday

Pic5 Richard Speight heard about SoundCycle through GT Big Band and wished to give two well-kept PAs that were getting a bit heavy to move around

All items went straight into service and now all we need to do is rehome them in schools! Schools in Bradford and surrounding areas are welcome to message Bren on 07769 922278 and we'll discuss your department's needs and even refurbish your broken instruments!

What a week at SoundCycle CIC HQ!

Pic1 - We returned the first batch of twenty basses, guitars and amps to the Ardor site of St Bede's & St Joseph's Catholic College
Dave Herringshaw from the music department was surprised by how well they now play, set up on new strings with no faults!
I'll post some progress shots after the weekend.

Pic2 - Laura and son Lucas gave his first Clarinet, following an upgrade now he is progressing

Pic 3 - Paul Mitchell brought his children's first instruments, wanting them to go on to help someone else start playing

Pic 4 - Daanyaal visted from The-Leap to see how we prepare instruments for those who need them.
(I don't really use a hammer!)

Pic 4 - James Bailey collected his Behringer mixing desk for Bingley Music Town following service by Andy the technician

Tomorrow I'll collect a Trombone and amp from Halifax as I go out playing gigs in Halifax and Darlington.

Good morning everyone.
Thank you so much for your kind words and support following yesterday's post. You may have noticed it is no longer available to watch, this is not a bad thing!
The huge response reached far and wide leading to contact from a group aligned with our aims.
We'll be meeting to make a plan to benefit the greater area from the repair and distribution of the instruments.
I'll update you soon!

Donations this week!

Bradford's musicians and public have shown immense community spirit this week with these fabulous donations:
Pic 1&2 Augustin Bousfield Music brought in a YAMAHA SY85 vintage synth. Gus will perform with Gurgles on Sunday 20th September at Saltaire Festival
Pic 3 Kath and The Kicks' bass player Tony Harrison gave his lovely Trace Elliot bass amp and 4x10" cab. The band will play at Saltaire Festival on Sunday 20th September on the main stage!
Pic 4 Chris Darby from Subject to Status (UK) donated a mixing desk, power amp and bass amp
Pic 5 Jayne Learoyd called-by with her late husband's beloved Roland W30 workstation
Pic 6 Dave Ellam borrowed some keyboard stands for an EMOM and gave us a LANEY bass practice amp!
Pic 7 Chris Egan came this morning with some guitars he was clearing out before moving house

Also in this week and heading for service are John Dey's Sax, Bass and TAMA snare, plus Pete Dublab's PARK 50w bass amp!

What an incredible week (and a bit) of donations from Bradford's music community. Now we prepare each item to go to those who need it.

Another exciting week of collections and drop-offs of donated instruments and equipment for SoundCycle to refurbish and rehome in Bradford's schools.

Our wonderful donors and supporters are a huge part of SoundCycle's journey and have helped us to intercept, service and prepare almost 2.8 tons of musical equipment for those in need since April.

SoundCycle CIC - Sustainability in Music for schools and colleges

We source unwanted music equipment & instruments then refurbish and prepare them for donation to school music departments, groups for disadvantaged youths, young adults with special educational needs and not-for-profit music projects in the Bradford District.

SoundCycle CIC can return your school's instruments, amps and other musical equipment to factory working condition with new strings, parts and PAT Testing for peace of mind.

We have helped schools including Appleton Academy (Wyke), Titus Salt School (Saltaire) and St. Bede's and St. Joseph's Catholic College (Bradford) vastly improving their provision of musical equipment without purchasing costly new replacements, saving almost 3 Tons of equipment considered end-of-life from landfill since April.

Pic5 - Fergus Ewan donated his unwanted DJ system with mixer and mic
