Brecon Scaffolding

Brecon Scaffolding Scaffolding Services — the trading name of Brecon Scaffolding Ltd (Est. 1995). As the business expanded, so did the areas it served.

Trusted providers of scaffolding, shoring, temporary works and access solutions across Wales & the West for commercial, residential and heritage projects. Founded in 1995 by Robbie John and Victoria Rodell, Brecon Scaffolding grew out of their experience running Robbie John Construction. Noticing a shortage of
reliable scaffolding and access service providers in the area, they established Brecon

Scaffolding to fill that gap. Operating from a small rented site at the foot of
the Crug, Brecon, the company quickly built a reputation for delivering personal, reliable, and safe scaffolding solutions on time and within budget. What began as a local operation soon grew to cover a wide regional area, forming strong, lasting
relationships with clients across multiple counties. In 1999, the company moved to BoxBush Farm in Three C***s, where it was able to scale its operations and
support further growth. By 2005, the company had grown significantly, with 9 full-time scaffolding staff and 2 in administration. In 2007, the company purchased land at the Three C***s Industrial Estate and developed it into a purpose-built scaffolding depot and offices. The 2008 recession
presented challenges, but the company adapted quickly, shifting its strategy to serve new markets and broadening its reach far beyond its original geographic focus. By 2013, the business had more than doubled in size, employing 18 site staff, 4 office staff, and 3 yard staff. The significant growth and expansion led to a rebranding,
with the company adopting the name Scaffolding Services.com. This change reflected the removal of any geographically restrictive names, enabling the company to better represent its national capability and the scale of its operations. While Robbie and Victoria remain active within the company, in 2024, after working with the business since the age of thirteen, their son Milo Rodell-John was
appointed as a second-generation Director. Milo now plays a key role in driving the company’s forward-thinking approach, particularly in refining
operations and maintaining our unwavering focus on Health & Safety

Now, in 2025, as the company enters its 30th year, it continues to thrive and evolve following the rebranding in 2013. Strategic investments into administrative
capacity has allowed the company to pursue and secure key industry accreditations, enabling the securement of contracts of all sizes with Tier 1 contractors. Despite this expansion, the company has remained committed to nurturing the relationships that it has built with local businesses and the wider community.

Eglwys Gadeiriol Tyddewi/Saint David’s Cathedral: Pinch yourselves, it’s happening.

Some projects remind us why we do what we do. Working at St David’s Cathedral — tucked into the far western edge of Gwalia, accessed by coastal roads and fishing villages where the landscape, sea and sky feel in themselves triggering of a biblical enlightenment; is one of those moments.

From our Mid-Wales depot to this long-untouched corner of Pembrokeshire, our team has demonstrated once again its capacity for strong logistics and careful preparation. This small project has ultimately been guided by a real respect for the story this building tells and an appreciation for the other people who make the journey to it (albeit for different purposes).

A warm cheers and thank you to Mark, Fil and the rest of the crew at Altrad Generation, and to the Adeilad Claddings team, for helping us make a tight turnaround possible.

Colossal gratitude also to Jones & Fraser Traditional Building for continuing to place their trust in us on work that demands care, patience, and craft.

And to the lads staying away in such a peaceful and historic city (it must have been such a chore….)

What a snap back to reality… ❄️

After a brief lull full of festive merriment, winter reminded us who’s in charge.

Early doors, cold hands, but back to the game (good job the boys are working inside...)

As 2025 draws to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect — and to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has worked with and supported Brecon Scaffolding this year.

The year began on a difficult note with the loss of our Leigh Dainton, and we’d like to acknowledge that at the outset. His presence, professionalism, and character were a big part of the team, and his presence and unstoppable attitude has been very much in our thoughts and our actions throughout the year.

Since then, it’s been a busy one — full of genuinely interesting projects, plenty of problem-solving, and generally brilliant moments. Through it all, the support we’ve had from clients, partners, our phenomenal supply chain and colleagues has meant a great deal.

Every job we’ve been involved in has been rewarding for the whole team, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to do what we do best (normally at height… unless you’re part of our bridge saddling brigade *cough* Merthyr *cough*😉).

None of it would be possible without the hard work, commitment, and graft of the boys on site and in the yard, along with our office team - we want to say a sincere thank you to them for everything they’ve put in this year - which has been a lot!

We’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a cracking New Year — hopefully filled with good food, good company, plenty of merriment, and a brief pause on harnesses, hard hats, and high-viz.

Here’s to fresh opportunities, continued success, and working together again in 2026.

Dukes of hazard?

We recently completed the scaffolding installation to the Duke of Wellington Monument in Brecon, providing safe, compliant access for inspection and cleaning works to this significant local heritage structure.

The monument was erected in the early 19th century to commemorate Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, following his victory at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. While there has long been local discussion over whether the monument was intended to honour Wellington or Sir Thomas Picton — A general who also played a crucial role at Waterloo — Picton, albeit a controversial character, is in fact depicted on a relief of the battle at the base of the monument, acknowledging his contribution.

As you can see - with the scaffold in place, Wellington himself can now be seen closer than is usually possible — a rare opportunity to appreciate the craftsmanship of the monument up close, and perhaps a moment to pay quiet homage to those who, like some of my good friends, after one too many pints, have ambitiously tried to do the same over the years.

Working on historic structures requires careful planning, sensitive installation methods and a clear understanding of heritage constraints. Our experienced team delivered a tailored scaffolding solution that prioritised safety, structural integrity and respect for the monument’s historic fabric and nature of works to be undertaken.

As always, it's a privilege to help maintain and protect landmarks of local significance.

Internal SG4 refresher done.

And for once, the weather behaved… or didn’t, but at least we were covered.

The rain was bouncing off the yard roof while most of us were inside(ish), warm(ish), dry(ish), and getting back to down to safe systems of work.

Top effort from everyone — and a sterling job by our Jim Garner on delivering his talk to the team

The world's oldest surviving iron railway bridge, and in our opinion, the real king of king posts.

Next week we have the privilege of returning to site to dismantle this beauty. Pont Y Cafnau Bridge, built in 1793 by the pioneering Cyfarthfa Ironworks Company, isn't just any bridge – it's a marvel of engineering that carried both water and a tramroad across the River Taff, featuring an ingenious three-tier design that showcases the innovative spirit of Wales' industrial revolution.
What makes Pont-Y-Cafnau so special? Its design featured an upper water channel, a middle tramroad deck, and a lower water channel – a three-story engineering solution perfectly captured the practical innovation of the era. The bridge's significance has been recognised with both Grade II* listing and Scheduled Monument status, cementing its place as one of Wales' most important industrial heritage sites.
This has genuinely been an amazing project to be involved in – a truly cherished opportunity to do our bit to ensure landmarks of modern Welsh history, such as this, are preserved for many years to come.

A massive thank you to those involved, first-class scaffold from start to finish.

Junction 23 – M4 Encapsulation Works for EV Infrastructure

This weekend, six of our team took on the challenge of building (and taking down) an encapsulation scaffold over the M4 at Junction 23, all within a nighttime possession window for WW Bowen Ltd.

With just 5 hours to make the erect happen, we brought in Altrad Futuro from Generation Hire & Sales (Cardiff + Bristol) and 600kg concrete blocks from WW Bowen — and got the job done, start to finish, inside 24 hours.

Huge thanks to WW Bowen LTD, Balfour Beatty, and National Grid for having us on board, and to all the local suppliers who made it possible. A massive thank you to Chris at Acute Scaffold Design for pulling the design & Calculations out of the bag with 48 hour turn around, thank you 🙏

It's always a pleasure to see so many local people involved in a project of this scale. Brecon brought the team, the graft, and the flavour — and the motorway was back open before the sun came up.
