Low Footprint Lamb UK were delighted to host for a farm walk on Monday evening. After a talk by Hayden Woolley we visited several flocks of shedding sheep, rams and lambs. Hayden explained about our low methane project, New Zealand genetics, data collection and our exciting plans for the future!

It was an early start for the LFPL Team today…and we are all set up at The Green Farm Collective Conference in Harrogate! If you’re attending the event, please come along for a 🐑 chat! We look forward to seeing you throughout the day 🌞

LFPL will be exhibiting rams at the Green Farm Collective Soil To Slice Regenerative Farming Conference at the Great Yorkshire Show-ground in Harrogate.

We are taking 3 rams - a 3/4 NZ Wiltshire maternal ram, an Australian Ultrawhite X with GDF 9, and one of the very first NZ Texel terminal ram with full shedding. We believe that our shedding genetics fit perfectly into regenerative farming system offering substantial labour savings, zero pesticide requirements and unassisted outdoor lambing. If you come to the stand I will explain our accelerated methane reduction program.

The FecXG gene (similar to the Inverdale gene) has been identified in shedding embryo exports to NZ from our flock and others. This mutation is thought to have originated within the Lleyn breed but has been found in recent Easycare and Exlana semen and embryo exports.

The above Ewes carry the prolificacy gene FecXG. They have been identified by improved DNA testing and removed from our recorded flock. The small group scanned at 260%, with 60% carrying triplets and 40% twins. We think the management challenge and infertility risk associated with double copy FeC XG animals is unnecessary for outdoor lambing flocks .nz
