NETWURK just turned one, and we celebrated with cake, coffee and a room full of Brighouse businesses who get it.

We’re still finding sprinkles in places they shouldn’t be, which is a pretty happy problem when the cake’s this good. It’s been twelve months of bringing local business owners together for proper conversation instead of card swapping, and honestly, the laughing in these clips says it all. Yorkshire hospitality over corporate networking, every time.

So whether you've been a regular from the off, or it's still on your to do list or this is the first time you've heard of us then this is your sign.

There won't be a marching band
(it's a deliberately small group)
There will be the usual Yorkshire hospitality, Yorkshire tea and maybe (just maybe) some birthday cake.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: New Neighbour Announcement 🎉

This week we're delighted to welcome Jaxs Palmer to the &WURK neighbourhood.

Jax is a consultant HR Director and her business is HenRys Ark. She specialises leadership and development with a strong focus on female leadership programs and is launching her new programme Elevate. She is also CoDeputy Chair of The Piece Hall.

You'll find her at Crossfit most days, and weekends are for watching live music or supporting her teen boys at cycling and martial arts.

NETWURK 12 - & that's a wrap

This week saw us host our 12th NETWURK event and it was a cracker.

Thanks to everyone that came and made it a success. New faces, old faces, quite folk and chatty ones.

It's an eclectic mix every month and we wouldn't have it any other way.

From mortgages brokers to graphics designers, energy consultants to hypnotherapists what everyone has in common is they're local businesses looking to grow their network in a friendly, intimate and low pressure space.

Two graphic designers. One conversation about Canva vs Adobe. Zero competition.

Sophie from Little Bird Design and Helen from Helen Boyes Design met at Netwurk last month and spent the best part of an hour swapping notes on tools, clients and the highs and lows of their work.

At some networking events, there's only one seat per sector. At Netwurk that's not how we roll.

The best conversations often happen between people who do the same thing; different approaches, different clients, but enough in common to make it a genuinely useful and insightful chat.

Everyone has a seat at the table here (even though we stand up).

Last week NETWURK was 8 🎂

8 months old, not years, but it really feels like it's found its feet.

What started as a desire to create a space in the new &WURK offices for local Brighouse businesses to meet each other has blossomed into something I'm really proud of.

You don’t need to be Carol Vorderman to work out that most people are coming back twice.

The reality is there are people coming back to nearly every event, and it shows in the warmth, chats and laughter in the room.

The fact that January hit a new record of 20 guests was a brilliant way to start the year and I know there are so many new connections made and existing relationships strengthened through this community.

Start now. Make it better later.
What a year of building the &WURK brand taught me about perfectionism.

This time last year, I unofficially took over the offices at 46b Bradford Road.
I called them 46Be.

Most of you will never have seen that early branding. It leaned heavily on my &Berry branding and did what it needed to do at the time. It helped me get started.

But…

I didn’t like it.
It didn’t work.
It didn’t feel right.

As the space evolved, so did the need for a name that properly reflected what was happening here.

&WURK was born.

The name &WURK represents a few things.

& – connection: you, me, and the other businesses that choose to gather here.
& – coexistence: because life is more than just work. It’s family & work, life & work. Not one instead of the other.

WURK because it sounds proper Yorkshire. Familiar. Fun. Just like the offices.

I loved the new name, but like many start-ups, I didn’t have the budget for full branding.
So, taking inspiration from the iconic red front door, I created a simple logo to get things moving, emphasising the ‘U’. Flexible offices that work around you.

Now, what all brand designers will tell you is this. A logo is not a brand.
And the more marketing I produced, the more I felt restricted by the two-dimensional logo I’d created.

As the months passed last year, I really dug deep into what these offices mean to people and why, in a competitive marketplace, I believe &WURK stands clear from the rest.

This was only the beginning.
Over time, the space, and the brand, found its shape.
