This evening's sunset was an absolute stunner. Perfectly calm and still. Beautiful reds and oranges and yellows. The timelapse is good but doesn't do it justice. They never do. Enjoy!

Sunset, Interrupted | 4k Timelapse | 1-12-2021

A gorgeous, albeit chilly beach sunset sadly cut short by the high tide.

Usually I'd keep recording until it's pitch black but I misjudged how far in the tide was going to come tonight and suffered a submerged tripod collapse near the end of the golden hour, so this one's only a couple of hours compressed into 30 seconds, with a fade to black at the end.

'Saccharine' is the first piece of music I’ve composed for myself in years. It’s about having to wear the happy face when you’re actually dead inside.

The minor lilt and the suspended 4th in the marimba pattern imply a tragic malaise behind an otherwise nonchalant shuffle. The joy-filled harmonious melody in the B section is voiced by distorted synths that scream and whine their happy glissando intervals with a tortured, desperate heartache.
