Not every entrance has a fixed reader. Construction compounds, event gates and temporary site entrances still need proper access control.

MobileGuard turns an Android phone into a manned access point linked to GuardPoint10. Your guard sees each person's name, photo and access level, and can spot-check RFID cards, QR codes and MobileKey phone keys. It's World Standards Day, a good excuse to talk about why open protocols matter on site.

GuardPoint10 works with open standards like OSDP and Wiegand, so you can mix Sensor readers with third-party readers on the same system. On the CCTV side, it connects to ONVIF NVRs and DVRs, putting cameras alongside doors and alarms on one screen.

For installers and integrators, that means fewer compromises at the spec stage, easier upgrades on existing sites, and no being locked into a single brand.

As we head into Q4, a lot of partners are bringing on new engineers or refreshing the team before the busy end-of-year period. Our GuardPoint10 installer training is built for that: we walk through system setup, cardholders, reports and the integrations you're most likely to meet on site.

Training sessions are available either at our Brighton base or online if travel's awkward.

Today we’ve been testing a custom version of our QR readers, produced with black inserts at a customer’s request for an upcoming project.

As expected, the darker insert slightly reduces the available light and therefore the QR read range, but testing has confirmed performance remains within acceptable parameters.

It’s a good example of how access control hardware can be adapted to suit the wider design of a building. Our readers can be customised with different artwork, company logos and branding, helping installers, architects and end users achieve a more consistent finish across a project.

The finishing details can make a real difference to how an access control system sits within a building. By adapting elements such as the reader finish, insert, lighting or branding, the hardware can feel more considered and better integrated with the surrounding interior, rather than looking like an afterthought added at the end of the project.

AI in business software doesn’t have to mean replacing people or automating entire roles. One of the most practical uses may be making the tools you already rely on easier to use.

Historically, software asks users to learn the system first — menus, fields, filters, where everything lives. That works fine for experienced operators. For newer or occasional users, even a simple report can feel harder than it should.

We’re exploring a different approach in GuardPoint10: natural-language reporting. Instead of building the query yourself, you describe what you need in plain English — for example, “Show me events on Sundays between 3pm and 5pm” — and the system interprets the request and applies the right filters.

A few principles matter to us:
• Transparency — so you can see how the request was interpreted
• Clear boundaries — AI helps shape filters; it doesn’t get unrestricted access to access-control data
• Save once — turn a natural-language ask into a reusable report template

Existing reporting stays. This is an extra route in, not a replacement for the interface operators already know.
