What if Friday became Story Day? 📚✨

Wild idea incoming: what if we reduced the school week to 4 days and made the 5th day entirely about storytelling?

Not reading practice or literacy worksheets. Actual storytelling.

We’ve made reading the foundation of primary education, but it should be stories at the centre. Reading is just ONE way to access stories - and it’s not even the oldest way.

When we lead with reading, we make stories feel like work, and exclude kids who are dyslexic or neurodiverse. We kill joy.

On Story Day, children might:

• Listen to audiobooks at whatever speed works for their brain
• Act out historical expeditions
• Create small world play narratives
• Make graphic novels or compose story-music
• Record family stories from grandparents
• Use text-to-speech or kids’ Kindles

The goal isn’t to avoid reading. It’s to remove pressure and expand possibilities. To help children fall in love with STORIES first.

Everyone worries that children aren’t reading anymore. But they’re consuming MORE stories than any generation in history - through podcasts, gaming, streaming, YouTube. Why aren’t we meeting them where they are?

Children need reading skills. But they also need empathy, confidence, storytelling ability, human connection. Things AI can’t replace.

It’s a radical idea. But what if it could work?

What would YOU do with a Story Day?

"An all-woman trio has been announced to represent the UK at..." 😭

Yesterday I was scrolling news updates on WhatsApp and the first few words of this headline caught my eye.

For a brief moment, my heart leapt with a surge of hope.

My mind immediately went to politics. Had our government finally woken up to the fact that according to international data from 1989-2011, peace is 35% more likely to last 15+ years when women are involved in agreements? Were they ACTUALLY sending women in to talk some sense into our crazy world leaders?

No. They're sending a trio of women to... Eurovision.

On International Women's Day, this really stings. It feels like a kick in the teeth.

While representation in cultural events matters, the stark contrast between my momentary hope and the reality highlights how far we still have to go in recognising women's proven abilities to foster lasting peace and meaningful change.

What does it say about our priorities when we celebrate women's visibility in entertainment but continue to exclude them from the tables where world-changing decisions are made?

There are so many incredible women in my life who I celebrate daily, but I don’t feel I can meaningfully join in the IWD celebrations when I feel so despondent about our position (or lack of) on the world stage.

Why is it that you leave some conferences absolutely buzzing, and others pretty… flat?

Well, I left yesterday’s buzzing. This is why.

1. The vibe of the whole event was beautifully curated. All the staff and volunteers were happy to be there and knew what they were doing, so they could welcome and interact with all the guests in a friendly, relaxed and knowledgeable way. There was music in the main bar area and an abundance of gorgeous food and drink (special shout out to for lunch!)
2. The event was named and built around a central theme: 24/7. The whole day was spent exploring 24/7 culture. The strategy was backed up by beautiful visuals from who has been working with Brighton Chamber on their annual summits for years.
3. A mix of talks and workshops kept everyone’s energy high and made the day flow beautifully. Loved ‘s workshop on different perspectives- it was nice to spend time getting to know new people without the small talk.
4. The speakers, as always, were top quality. I’ll never forget talking about her experience of this cruel world with such humour and honesty.

All in all, another triumphant success from .

Was it a conference, or LinkedIn IRL? Or maybe a business wedding reception? It was all of that and more. You guys know how to throw a party!

always helps me shake off the week on Saturday mornings, rain or shine. This morning was blowy and wet and the sea was wild – my favourite kind of weather on Brighton beach! Now home for a nice hot chocolate and maybe a cheeky fried egg or two 🍳🍳

ATTENTION MARKETERS: Think your company could do with a rebrand but the boss isn't so keen?

This post is for you. Don't forget to save it for later!

So often, I get asked "what's the ROI of branding?"

Branding is a long term investment, and it touches so many areas of a business. It's difficult to give an exact figure, but I can tell you that a great brand leads to:

- Higher prices
- Greater customer loyalty
- Value alignment amongst the team
- Consistent messaging
- Higher company valuation

All the stats you need to make your case for investing in a rebrand are in the carousel. Enjoy!

Often, when they first get in touch, my clients tell me that their business isn’t growing at the rate they’d like it to.

When I start to explore why, I usually find one of the following:

- Their brand positioning is weak (they’re too similar to their competitors)

- Their brand positioning is unclear (there’s no demand for their services because no one knows what they do)

- Their team is confused and misaligned on values

- Their messaging is dry and inconsistent (or they’re using their brand strategy as their messaging - no, they're not the same thing!)

Are you experiencing slow growth? Then it might be time to look at your brand strategy. Once your brand positioning, purpose, values and personality is clear, you’ll be in a much better position to achieve your goals.

If you'd like help, send me a message - I've got space to take on two more clients this side of Christmas ✨

Tonight I've developed a Monday night edition (PG) and replaced the double shot of vodka with a double shot of red wine. It works! Actually, it's bloody delicious.

Thanks Ben, you've brightened this rainy Monday!

Let's face it, "I'm a brand strategist" is pretty meaningless to most people.

So I asked some of my clients to explain what I do in their own words.

Here's what they said...

This is my workgroup. We've been meeting monthly for over a year, facilitated by a truly remarkable man, Kerry Kyriacou (kneeling next to me).

What's remarkable about Kerry is his intuitive empathy. He truly understands people's moods, wants and needs, often without even having to ask. This ability makes him a true leader. It's an extraordinary thing to feel really, truly seen.

Sadly we've been disbanded, so I'll no longer be meeting with this gang regularly. I'll really miss them.
