Happy World Menopause Day 2024

Perimenopause - Hormonal Fluctuations and disruptions to periods - normally between 40-50 years old
Menopause - When period stops - (retrospective diagnosis 1 year 1 year after periods have stopped) around 50-53 years old.
Post-Menopause - 1 year after period has stopped to end of life

These 3 stages of menopause all present in the below picture and bring different symptoms for women. It's important to normalise and talk about what these are and how they affect us at home, at work, and in life.

We continue to see a significant number of women leaving the workforce due to menopause-related symptoms. This is not just a personal challenge; it’s a workplace issue that needs to be addressed.

Many women experience psychological hurdles during this phase, including brain fog, overwhelm, lack of confidence, self-doubt, and anxiety. Consequently, they may hesitate to pursue promotions or find themselves feeling unseen and unheard within their organisations.

Investing in menopause support not only empowers women but also enhances overall team performance and engagement.

So, on this World Menopause Day 2024...my call to action is for ANYONE reading this, to find 5 women in your world and talk menopause!

Let’s create environments where women can thrive at every stage of their careers—because when we support each other, we all succeed!

Boost Your Confidence with the 'Wonder Women' Pose!

As a child, you might've caught me twirling in my room, channeling my inner 'Wonder Woman,' and truth be told, it made me feel unstoppable. Thanks to Amy Cuddy and her research team, there's science behind this empowering experience.

Now, I'm not suggesting you wear a cape daily, although it does sound like fun. What I am proposing, echoing Cuddy's insights, is that power poses can be your secret weapon to unleash confidence by triggering positive hormonal responses in your body.

Here's the scoop from their study:

Study Details:
Amy Cuddy and her team delved into the impact of high-power and low-power poses, using a study with 42 students.

Sequence of the Study:

Initial saliva samples were collected to measure testosterone and cortisol levels.

Participants struck either a high-power or low-power pose for two minutes.

A second set of saliva samples was taken, and hormone levels were reassessed.

Surprising Results:
The analysis revealed a remarkable influence of body language on hormones. High-power poses led to a 20% increase in testosterone and a 25% decrease in cortisol levels.

Take Action:
To experience this for yourself, try incorporating a 2-minute power pose while waiting for the kettle to boil or just before crucial meetings or interviews.

I'm eager to hear your thoughts after giving it a shot! And remember this research is not gender specific, so anyone can benefit from this.
Let's boost that confidence together.

Looking for answers...

What does it actually mean to be perimenopausal, menopausal or postmenopausal? Confused? I was...

This post is for both women and men as it's good to understand the differences between each stage. You'll either go through it personally in some way, or you'll be around women who are. Research shows that the more informed and educated women are about menopause and symptoms and better able they are to cope. . I hope this helps.

🌸 Understanding Menopause 🌸

Menopause is a natural and inevitable phase in a woman's life, yet it often carries with it a cloud of misconceptions and misunderstandings. Let's debunk the myths and shed light on the distinct stages of perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause, empowering women with knowledge about their bodies.

Perimenopause:
Definition: Perimenopause marks the transition from reproductive to non-reproductive years, typically beginning in the late 30s or early 40s.
Hormonal Changes: Fluctuations in oestrogen and progesterone levels result in irregular menstrual cycles.
Symptoms: Women may experience irregular periods, hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and changes in libido.
Duration: This phase can span several years, with menopause officially confirmed after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period.

Menopause:
Definition: Menopause is declared after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period, indicating the end of reproductive years.
Hormonal Changes: Significant decreases in oestrogen and progesterone lead to the cessation of menstruation.
Symptoms: Hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, vaginal dryness, and potential bone density loss are common.
Age Range: Menopause typically occurs around 51, but the range varies widely from late 40s to early 60s.

Post Menopause:
Definition: Post menopause follows menopause and continues for the rest of a woman's life.
Hormonal Changes: Hormone levels remain relatively stable but at lower levels than during reproductive years.
Symptoms: Some symptoms may persist, but others like menstrual irregularities diminish. Long-term health considerations include bone density loss and an increased risk of cardiovascular issues.
Health Focus: Attention shifts towards managing long-term health, encompassing bone health, cardiovascular health, and addressing potential hormonal imbalances.

Understanding these distinct stages is crucial for women's health, allowing for targeted symptom management and proactive healthcare.

Every women will experience it differently, so be kind to yourself and have compassion for those around you. Lets foster supportive environments that empower women to navigate this natural progression with confidence and well-informed choices. 🌺💪

Scared you'll fall flat on your face...

Life as a woman can feel like a constant uphill battle. Juggling work, family, life, menopause and so much more! You hustle, you grind, you give it your all, but sometimes it feels like you're stuck on a treadmill, not actually going anywhere.

Did you know? A lack of confidence was the top reason women cited for not progressing in their careers in a study I co-authored with the University of Suss*x. Not feeling seen or heard was another big one.

Even though it's been 4 years, this info is still SO relevant in 2024! That's why I'm on a mission to help women ditch the treadmill and rise as superwomen!

My "Rise of Superwomen" programme will launch soon, and it's all about:

• Building Confidence and strengthening resilience: These are superpowers within us all. They fuel our ability to navigate life's challenges, chase our dreams, and bounce back stronger after setbacks.

• Getting off the hamster wheel: Stop working so hard in the wrong direction! Having a purpose with vision will help you achieve this.

• Investing in yourself: Take time to refocus and figure out what YOU want. Having a strong female Identity will support you in figuring this out.

• Finding your voice: Make sure you're seen and heard! What’s the impact you want to have in the world. Walk the walk and talk the talk.

You know you deserve more, and you're not alone. Let's work together to become a collective of strong, confident female leaders who know exactly what we want and how to get it.

DM me to join my email list for updates on the program launch, and let's build a community of superwomen who support and empower each other! Time to get off the treadmill, the right way, not by falling flat on your face 😁

Menopause - My personal Story!

Did you know that over 1 million women leave their jobs every year due to menopause symptoms? Shocking, right? Well, brace yourselves because that number is probably even higher since the original survey by BUPA in 2019. 🤯

Are you one of these women, or are you simply not feeling like your fabulous self lately, wondering why? 🤔 Let's talk symptoms – and trust me, there are more than you might realise. Check out a few from my research:

✨ Difficulty concentrating
✨ Lack of energy
✨ Hot flushes
✨ Aching joints
✨ Poor memory
✨ Tiredness
✨ Mood swings
✨ Sleep disturbances
✨ Brain fog
✨ Fatigue
✨ Decreased s*x drive
✨ Attention to detail
✨ Learning capacity
✨ Increased sick leave
✨ Relationship difficulties with clients and colleagues

I'm a 52-year-old mum of two teenage girls and co-founder of Momentum4. Menopause hit me like a ton of bricks over two years ago. It affected my relationships, confidence, and self-belief. I had low mood and dark thoughts. One day, I walked out of my house, unsure where I was headed, just feeling lost and not wanting to go back to my life. This was my lowest point.

Lucky for me, I had an amazing support network and family who helped me through. It was a stressful time for me then with finances and work being lost due to the pandemic. Research demonstrates that stress exacerbates symptoms.

I initially resisted HRT, I saw it as a ‘cop out’ as I can fix most things through lifestyle. However, I spoke to lots of different people, did my own research and decided to give it a go. HRT made an instant difference for me, and my dark thoughts lifted and I started to feel like me again. Combined with the tools and strategies I put in place, I started to manage the stress and flourish again.

Every woman's menopause journey is unique. My experience inspired me during my MSc in Applied Positive Psychology to focus on supporting women at work to thrive, not just survive.

Focussing on the 4 dimensions of human resilience, The Body, Mind, Emotions and Purpose, we can learn how to enhance our well-being and operate out of our optimal zone of sustainable high performance. This is us at our best.

I’m currently working with women who want to create positive change in their lives, who are looking to invest in themselves, move forward with confidence and achieve the goals that are important to them.

DM me if you want to know more and are interested in being put on my email list for further information.

Let's break the silence, share our stories, and support each other through this incredible journey! 💪❤️

🎄✨ Question... do you believe in Elf's? ✨🎄

🌟 Reflecting on the Holiday Season 🌟

Did the festive season bring differing opinions, heated debates, or perhaps the eternal question of whether Elf's truly exist? 🤷‍♀️ Whether it was debates about Christmas traditions, shopping preferences, or even diving into weightier topics like Brexit and Covid vaccines, our beliefs shape our behaviour.

Our beliefs come from all sorts of places — parents, culture, teachers, managers, news, and hey, maybe even TikTok! 🌐 But understanding why we hold these beliefs is crucial.

As we step into a new year, it's the perfect time to reflect on our aspirations and values. What truly matters is what we value and why we believe what we do.

I've noticed many with strong beliefs who haven't explored the "why" behind them. So, let's pause and ask ourselves: What's important to me? What do I truly value? How do these values influence my behaviour? Do my beliefs align with the world I want to see?

The beauty is, beliefs can be reshaped. We can reprogramme our minds to think, feel, and act differently.

If you're gearing up for a more intentional, purposeful, and successful year—where your values align with your actions—I'm here to help and support you in making it happen. Let's embrace positive change together! 💪✨

On a personal note, I believe in the magic of Christmas because I value giving, having fun, laughter, family, love, and tradition....
what do you believe? 🎁❤️

To all you over 40+ women out there...

Middle age can be a time of immense personal growth and transformation. However, it can also be a period of uncertainty and identity loss. If you're feeling lost and disconnected, know that you're not alone. Many women experience a shift in their identity as they navigate the challenges of this life stage.

Not too long ago, we used to tell women, ‘You’re going through the change’, referring to menopause! Well, we are indeed undergoing a transformation – with shifts in hormones, changes in our bodies, and evolving mindsets.

As middle-aged women, we're also navigating a phase where our children are growing up, heading off to university or exploring the world. We're also dealing with the complexities of caring for elderly parents and, at times, coping with bereavement. It's a challenging period, and it's easy to feel stuck, uncertain about what lies ahead.

As I embark on the journey of 2024, my focus shifts towards empowering more women to navigate their next life phase. It's about rediscovering who they are, defining who they want to become, and crafting a plan to make it a reality. Whether it's navigating a career change, advancing in their current path, finding joy as empty nesters, rekindling relationships, or prioritising self-care, resilience, and well-being – I'm here to support the transformation and empowerment of women on this incredible journey. Let's embrace the possibilities and make 2024 a year of personal growth and fulfilment!

The good news is that your true self is still there, waiting to be rediscovered. Ask yourself, is 2024 the time to reclaim my power and embrace the woman I am meant to be?

As we head into the Christmas holidays, it’s a great time to reflect on the year we’ve just had. Here are some powerful steps that you can reflect on to help you reconnect with your inner strength:

• Reflect on your values and passions:
What matters most to you? What makes you come alive? Identifying your core values can guide you in making meaningful choices and rediscovering your purpose.

• Embrace your experiences and lessons learned:
Life's experiences, both good and bad, have shaped you into the woman you are today. Acknowledge and appreciate the lessons you've learned, as they are a source of inner strength and wisdom.

• Challenge limiting beliefs:
Identify and confront any negative thoughts or beliefs that are holding you back. Replace them with empowering affirmations that support your growth and self-worth.

• Surround yourself with supportive people:
Build a network of positive and encouraging individuals who believe in you and uplift you. Their support can be invaluable in your journey of self-discovery.

• Practice self-care: Prioritise your physical and mental well-being. Engage in activities that nourish your soul, such as meditation, exercise, or creative pursuits.

Remember, you are a remarkable woman with an abundance of strength, wisdom, and resilience. Don't be afraid to explore new possibilities, embrace your passions, and redefine your identity. The journey of self-discovery is a lifelong adventure, and you're ready to embark on it.
