On Wednesday we had our (belated) summer day out ⛱️ We took a day away from the studio and got stuck into a mug making workshop with the wonderful Scarlett of Plop Pottery

Scarlett taught us the nerikomi technique which creates layers of colour through stages of stacking and rolling different colours of clay.

Each of the team had a very different approach, some creating patchwork designs, others went for stripes, checkerboards, or herringbones. There’s no forgetting weave even in clay!

Thank you so much to Scarlett for sharing your craft with us and for producing some SOS speedy mug handles as our workshop time drew to a close ☕

Last week the Dash + Miller and Bristol Weaving Mill team visited the newly opened University of Bristol, Sloane Robinson building.

It’s rare for us to be able to experience our work like this as a team. We sat amongst the 16 panels woven between us, and enjoyed the space Ellie and the wider team has created. It has a special feel to it, a comfy haven off the side of the large and lively entrance hall.

This area of the building is open to the public, and we can’t wait to take friends, family, and clients. It is handily located next to the new entrance to Bristol Temple Meads station, and you can simply drop in during the buildings opening hours. We hope that some of you may have the opportunity to pay it a visit!

A pinch-me moment today! First time seeing the new Temple Quarter University of Bristol campus, and our textile pieces as part of artist Ellie Shipman’s Soft Monument, a collection of works tracing and paying tribute to the hidden role of women in shaping Bristol’s industrial history.

It’s been a dream project to work on, with a dream team - not only Ellie and our very talented weavers and designers at Dash + Miller and The Bristol Weaving Mill, but the wider community of artists, creatives, makers, designers and community groups who have been part of this process. The teams at Bristol University and The Contemporary Art Society have also been wonderful to work with, incredibly supportive and collaborative.

Panels and cushions woven and stitched in British wool from using a combination of handloom and industrial weaving, at our Bristol design studio and Weaving Mill, less than a mile away from the Temple Quarter campus.

And to top it off, a write up in the guardian (and a tiny photo too)!

A very belated thank-you to the wonderful Anna and Cristian from Frankenstein Press for the most amazing staff day out. We visited them back in December 2025 and spent a brilliantly creative day exploring block and lino printing.

Anna and Cristian were beyond generous with their time, knowledge and expertise, and we all came away with something we were proud of. They have made Frankenstein Press an important part of their local community, and we can see why! We urge anyone who wants to try their hand at printing to contact them, their passion and warm generosity is infectious!

We've cut off a new batch of portfolio samples today ✂️
