McTimoney is a holistic treatment, as the whole animal is taken into consideration. The intention is to remove the cause of the problem as opposed to solely eliminating the symptoms. The theory behind McTimoney is that by returning the spine and other skeletal structures to their normal symmetrical state, relieves muscular tension and allows the nervous system to fully function. The nervous system
is the vital link between the brain and the body. Therefore, when the nervous system is functioning optimally the health and well-being of the animal is positively affected as a whole. The treatment is very light and non-invasive as only my hands are used to treat. The animal's respond positively both mentally and physically. As symptoms of skeletal misalignments and muscular tension do not often present themselves as we would expect, I have included a list below. Hopefully it will be useful for you as you may be able to relate to some with your own animals.
-Intermittent lameness/stiffness/pottery gait
-Favouring one rein (struggling to strike off on the correct lead on one rein or landing on the same leg when jumping)
-Falling out through the shoulders or quarters when ridden or lunged
-Drop in performance (stopping at jumps, knocking jumps, lower dressage scores or slower times)
-Reluctance to go forward and work through from behind
-Muscle atrophy/asymmetry
-Lack of flexion/suppleness
-Stiffness when getting up and down (or jumping in an out of the car, going up and down the stairs)
-Not wanting to play or go for walks
-Behavioural issues (tiredness, aggressiveness when tacking up or putting rugs on, bucking, rearing or nervousness)
-Stiff or uncomfortable to look at (tail clamped in)
-Excessive rolling and stretching
-Reluctance to sit, lie down or roll over, which is normally no problem
-Struggling to reverse or turn in a tight circle
-Lying down more than usual or on the same side
