October marks awareness month, and fostering a healthy workplace culture is essential for supporting employees experiencing menopause symptoms. Many women also need practical support and helpful adjustments to manage the impact of their symptoms at work.

There’s a wide range of measures organisations can adopt to help their people manage menopause symptoms, our research shows that the most valued are:

✔️planned flexible working
✔️ability to control local temperature
✔️last-minute or unplanned late starts after sleep disturbance
✔️more breaks when needed
✔️occupational health support.

Labour are considering proposals to give employees new rights to request a four-day week. This working pattern has been subject to discussion for several years with Belgium the first European country to give employees a legal right to request a 4 day working week.

The announcement has led to plenty of comments from interested parties and resulted in the Government stressing that any changes will not be imposed on employers but as usual the devil will be in the detail.

From 17th December Employees can now self-certify sickness for up to 28 days. They only need to attend a GP for a ‘fit note’ if they have been ill for more than 28 days and have taken sick leave. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2021/1453/pdfs/uksi_20211453_en.pdf
