Engage Counselling Bespoke Counselling service that offers in-person, online, and telephone counselling Engage Counselling offers face to face, online, and telephone counselling.

People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons, relationship breakdown, bereavement, anxiety, depression, trauma, sexuality, irrational thoughts, to name a few. Sometimes, you might find yourself with a mind fall of noise and confusion, with a feeling of uncertainty, and no way of understanding all the thoughts at once. The mind can be a scary place, especially when society, family, and friends might be telling you who you should be, how you should look, and what you must feel. However, with a little support from a counsellor, you can be taught the skills and tools, to get you back to your true self, so that your mind is a little less scary. Friends might give you advice, family might do the same, when all you might want is for someone to listen to you. Here at Engage Counselling there is no judgement, no advice, no telling you what to do, instead, you are given a safe space to organise your thoughts, with a qualified and experienced counsellor, that will walk with you on your journey of self-discovery. No issue is ‘silly’, not issue is ‘irrelevant’, if an issue is effecting you to the point of it having a negative impact on your life, then it is relevant. We specialise in person-centred counselling, which is a talking therapy, as well as offer an integrative range of therapies to fit the individual client. We work seven days a week supporting clients, and we do our best to fit in with the clients lives. Services:

In-Person Counselling – An important part of counselling, is the therapeutic relationship between the client, and the counsellor. We believe that this relationship is important for positive therapeutic change, and in-person counselling can help this to happen. This type of counselling will give the client that opportunity to sit with a qualified, and experienced counsellor, in a safe, warm, and calm environment. Together with the client, the counsellor will use their counselling skills, empathy, unconditional positive regard, honesty and no judgement, to support the client to organise their thoughts, and understand what it is they are feeling. Online Counselling - Online counselling is available to anyone that has access to the internet on a computer or smart phone, anywhere in the world. Clients choosing online counselling maybe facing difficulties with mobility, travelling or the pressures of work and family life, which can make it difficult to be able to commit to in-person counselling, therefore, online counselling allows them to access counselling that will fit with them, and their lives. Telephone Counselling: This type of counselling is accessible to anyone that has access to a phone. The feelings wheel (also called an emotion wheel) is a visual tool used to help people identify, name, and understand their emotions with greater precision.

Key Reasons to Use a Feelings Wheel:
* Build Emotional Literacy: It expands your vocabulary so you can accurately name what you are experiencing instead of blanking or oversimplifying.
* Improve Communication: Naming a specific emotion (e.g., "I feel unappreciated" instead of just "I'm angry") helps partners, family members, or coworkers understand you better.
* Enhance Self-Awareness: Moving from the center ring (core emotions like sad, angry, or fearful) outward to secondary and tertiary rings helps you trace why you feel that way.
* Support Emotional Regulation: Calming down and processing intense or overwhelming feelings becomes easier when you stop treating an emotion as a permanent state and view it as temporary data.
* Aid in Therapy or Mindfulness: Counselors, parents, and individuals use it during conflict, journaling, or self-reflection to unpack triggers and find healthier coping tools.

Let’s have a conversation…

Most of us have that friend who loves dressing up on birthdays and special occasions. “It’s my birthday so let’s go into town dressed as sexy school girls” and that is what we need to talk about, “sexy school girls”.

We buy the short skirts, we put on the school shirt but tie the bottom or undo the buttons, showing some flesh, our hair goes into pigtails, our makeup is done on point, we’re feeling and looking sexy. But have you ever thought what dressing up as a “sexy school girl” actually means?

By promoting adults dressed as “sexy school girls”, are we not just enabling peadophiles? Are we not as women saying it is ok for grown men to be attracted to children? Are we adding to the problem?

Have a think about it, what do you think? 🤔

No child should be seen as sexy, and anyone under 18 years of age is legally a child.

Where did seeing a school uniform as sexy come from? And why have we made this “normal”?

Internalised misogyny occurs when women subconsciously absorb, accept, and project sexist ideas, societal biases, and patriarchal gender norms onto themselves and other women.

Definition and Core Concept:
* The inside-out bias: While general misogyny is an outward prejudice expressed by men, internalized misogyny happens when women adopt these same harmful attitudes toward their own gender.
* Subconscious learning: People learn these beliefs through media, cultural upbringing, and generations of social conditioning rather than conscious choice.
* Self-policing: It functions as a form of internalised oppression where individuals enforce societal rules on themselves and peers even without outside pressure.

Common Manifestations:
* Judging other women: Holding female peers to impossible standards regarding behavior, choices, or lifestyle.
* The "not like other girls" mindset: Distancing oneself from traditional femininity to gain approval, viewing feminine traits as weak or silly.
* Appearance policing: Critiquing other women's bodies, clothing, or aging based on strict patriarchal beauty standards.
* Internalised doubt: Doubting one's own leadership, intelligence, or authority while automatically trusting male leadership more.
* Horizontal hostility: Competing with other women as rivals rather than allies.

How to Unlearn It:
* Notice the bias: Pause and examine your immediate negative judgments or competitive thoughts toward other women.
* Challenge the script: Question whether your expectations stem from personal values or societal conditioning.
* Practice solidarity: Support and celebrate the successes and choices of other women.
* Reclaim femininity: Value feminine strengths and interests without viewing them as inferior.

With AI tools so freely available, many people may decide to save money and ask the AI tool to help with their problems, and the issues they are facings. However, should we rely on AI tools to support our well-being? Should we be saving money on our well-being or prioritise it?

Accessing counselling with a qualified human counsellor means you get a regulated, clinically trained, and emotionally attuned professional relationship.

You get real empathy through tone of voice, body language and micro-expressions.

You get professional standards because a qualified counsellor will follow ethical guidelines and have insurance.

You will get real challenge, as a qualified counsellor can provide you with the safe space to challenge unhelpful beliefs and behaviours.

You can get safety in a crisis because a counsellor can assess severe mental health risks and intervene in an emergency.

Whereas, AI offers an unregulated, automated pattern-matching tool that lacks genuine feelings or real accountability

Although AI can be accessed 24/7, AI has no true understanding of what you are going through, it uses math and data patterns to guess the next word, and does not have a nervous system, feelings or real context to understand.

Also, AI is programmed to be agreeable, so may validate unhealthy thoughts, and give incorrect, and dangerous advice.

People often date partners who resemble their parents because early childhood experiences form a blueprint for how love, safety, and intimacy feel.

According to Attachment theory, children learn how to connect with others based on how their primary caregivers treated them.

If a parent was warm and reliable, a person naturally seeks out partners who offer that same secure feeling. However, if a parent was critical, distant, or unpredictable, a person may unconsciously recreate those same chaotic dynamics in adult dating. This feels familiar to the nervous system, even when it is unhealthy and toxic.
