Every year, we keep one tradition that matters most to us.

We buy gifts for people who might not receive any at all –
and each year, we choose a different charity to support.

This year, we’ve chosen Black Country Women’s Aid. 🎁

They support survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence and exploitation across the Black Country and West Midlands, and it’s a privilege to show up for them in a small way.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s not huge.
But for the person opening that gift, it’s a moment of care in a really hard season.

A reminder that they are seen.
They are not alone.
They matter. 💛

We recently hosted Ethan, a young truck enthusiast now in his fourth year of remission.

Ethan and his family run Ethan’s Journey, a September truck show raising funds for toys for children receiving chemotherapy on Wards 18 & 19 at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

We had a VIP in the driver's seat this week! 🚚⭐

It was our absolute pleasure to welcome mega truck fan, Ethan, to JPE for a tour of the cab. His smile and enthusiasm were infectious!

But Ethan's story is about so much more than his love for trucks.

He’s an incredible young man, now in his fourth year of remission from cancer, and his journey is a true inspiration.

Together with his family, he channels his passion into "Ethan's Journey," an amazing initiative that gives back to the community.

Each year, they host their own truck show in September to raise funds for toys for the children on Wards 18 & 19 at Birmingham Children’s Hospital – the very same wards where Ethan bravely underwent his own treatment.

It’s a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and kindness that can come from the most challenging of times. We are so proud to be part of the wider trucking community that supports Ethan and his family.

🌱 Building brighter futures, one truckload at a time

Last term we helped Rushall Primary School launch their OPAL (Outdoor Play & Learning) programme with a fresh sand-pit. The kids have been loving it — so much so that the school asked if we could help them expand the space and add a new growing area.

Absolutely. 🚚💨

This week our team delivered, free of charge:

→ 7 tonnes of Shipley Building Sand for bigger, better play pits
→ 3 tonnes of rich topsoil to kick-start the children’s gardening beds

It’s a small journey from our quarry to the school, but the impact travels much further. More space to dig, build and explore. Fresh soil to sow seeds (both literal and figurative) about sustainability and healthy eating.

We’re proud to back initiatives that turn classrooms inside-out and spark real-world learning right on our doorstep. Huge credit to the staff at Rushall Primary for turning raw materials into magical experiences for the next generation.

Here’s to many sandy castles, muddy hands and bumper vegetable crops ahead! 🏰🪴

79 Sand Martins (and one surprise raptor) at our Shipley site!

This summer our resident bird-ringing team has already logged 79 newly-ringed Sand Martins and re-sighted several birds that first chose our quarry faces in previous years. Clearly, the colony feels right at home.

The real plot twist? On their first evening, the team safely caught a Hobby — a migratory bird of prey that winters in Africa and rarely turns up in ringing nets (fewer than 15 are recorded nationwide each year). We even watched it swoop down, catch a Sand Martin mid-flight to feed its chicks, then circle back and (accidentally!) glide straight into the mist-net itself. Nature never fails to surprise.

Moments like these remind us why we leave sections of our working faces undisturbed each breeding season and invite experts like Paul and his volunteers to monitor the wildlife. Responsible quarrying and vibrant biodiversity can *and should* co-exist.

Huge thanks to Paul and the ringing team for their meticulous work and to everyone at JPE who helps protect the spaces these birds rely on.

✨ Community Spotlight ✨

We’re proud to share a small act that’s made a big difference for our neighbours at Buildwas Holy Trinity Church.

When the Restoration Project told us their centuries-old churchyard path was crumbling — and blocking wheelchair and push-chair access — we knew we could help. Last November our team delivered 15 tonnes of MOT Type 1 hardcore free of charge, giving the volunteers the stable base they needed to lay a brand-new, accessible pathway.

Fast-forward to today 👉 the “before & after” photos (swipe!) say it all:

• Smooth, level surface from gate to door
• Safer footing for elderly visitors
• Fully accessible route for wheelchairs and mobility aids

This Sunday, 4 May, Sara Rowlands from Accounts is trading her trusty calculator for a race bib in the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run, all in aid of the incredible St Giles Hospice.

Cancer has touched almost every one of us—across JPE and well beyond our gates. St Giles provides compassionate, end-of-life care for families throughout the Midlands, and every pound truly counts.

📍Local impact, lasting difference.

When Rushall Primary School got in touch about their new OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) initiative, we knew we had to get involved.

They reached out with a simple but powerful request:

“We’re building a sandpit to enrich our children’s play… could JPE help?”

Of course, we could.

Last week, our team delivered a generous donation of sand to help bring their vision to life. This sandpit will become a space where children can play freely, safely, and imaginatively — a vital part of their development and wellbeing.

We’re proud to support projects like this, especially when they’re just down the road. A small gesture for us, a big win for the next generation.
