🎉 A Heartfelt Thank You from Burgess Hill Together! 🎉

As we approach a pivotal moment in our campaign against the proposed parking charges, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible support that has brought us to this point. Thanks to your unwavering commitment, we've surpassed our goal, gathering 2,800 signatures—far exceeding the required 1,300 to bring this matter before a full MSDC council for further scrutiny.

This achievement is not the final count; we are still compiling additional signatures, with more expected from Haywards Heath later this week. Furthermore, our efforts have been bolstered by the East Grinstead Business Association, which has also been collecting signatures in solidarity.

We extend our deepest gratitude to:

💚The local businesses that hosted our petition, demonstrating their invaluable support for our community.

❤️The dedicated residents who volunteered countless hours in all conditions, showing true community spirit.

🩷Our local representatives who stand with us against the parking charges and have been instrumental in collecting petitions.

💜Together, we've shown what can be accomplished with unity and determination. We will be submitting the petition tomorrow morning and closely monitoring MSDC's response in the coming weeks. We remain hopeful that our collective voice will lead to a reversal of the proposed charges.

🚨📢 Attention Burgess Hill Residents 📢🚨

We're deeply concerned about the recent decision made by the Mid Sussex District Council regarding parking fees in our area. On 28/02/2024, the Council voted through its Draft Corporate Plan and Budget 2024-25, proposing staggering increases in parking fees across Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, and East Grinstead.

Specifically, the proposal includes a shocking 10% increase in parking fees for Burgess Hill, a 20% hike for Haywards Heath, and a staggering 30% rise for East Grinstead. Meanwhile, villages continue to enjoy free parking, with a promise of a public consultation at a later date.

To add insult to injury, MSDC has also decided to scrap free parking in the evenings, on weekends, and on bank holidays in Burgess Hill. This decision is yet another blow to our struggling town centre, and many councillors spoke out against it, championing the cause of local communities and businesses.

An alternative plan was proposed, advocating for a more modest 10% increase across the board while retaining free evening and weekend parking in Burgess Hill. Unfortunately, this sensible suggestion was rejected.

In our efforts to gauge local sentiment, we polled businesses in the area, and the response was unanimous: they are vehemently against the new parking fees.
