Our Story

Newton Newton Flag & Banner Makers was founded in 1975 by Clifford Newton and his wife, Georgina. What began as a small family venture grew from Cliff’s lifelong fascination with flags—sparked as a boy when his father brought home a German flag at the end of World War II, and later when he purchased his first new flag from the renowned firm Turtle & Pearce Ltd in Tanner Street, London.

Cliff's passion quickly turned into a deep knowledge of flag history, usage, protocol, and etiquette. In the early days, the business was limited to producing simple sewn and appliquéd flag designs. However, progress was initially slow due to a lack of production methods and business management experience. Encouragement came from local parish vicar Brian Newton (no relation), who supported Cliff’s successful application for a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship under the category “The Creation of a Small Business.” This invaluable opportunity took Cliff to 23 flag and banner manufacturers across 19 U.S. states, where he studied materials, techniques, and production processes. With this new knowledge and the help of his daughters, Tracy and Selina, the business began to flourish. Newton Newton quickly established a strong reputation within the industry for creating flags and banners of exceptional quality, elegance, and craftsmanship. Following the retirement—and eventual passing—of both Cliff and Georgina, Tracy and Selina proudly took full control of the company. Today, they continue the family legacy with the same dedication to excellence that has defined Newton Newton for over five decades.
