Before International Women's Day was all over Instagram, Niki's manager at her first job introduced her to it.
He was from Bosnia, where IWD has been celebrated for decades. Every year, he'd leave a rose waiting for each of us on March 8th.
It was such a simple, beautiful gesture.
IWD started in 1909 as a labor movement - women demanding better working conditions, fair pay, and voting rights.
The first International Women's Day was celebrated in 1911 across Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland, with over a million people attending rallies.
But in many countries - especially across Eastern Europe and parts of Asia - it evolved into something different: a public holiday celebrating women with flowers, appreciation, and recognition. In Italy, men give yellow mimosas. In Russia and many former Soviet countries, it's been a national holiday for over a century.
It wasn't always just about activism and protest. It was also about saying: we see you, we value you, we celebrate you.
This Sunday, we're bringing both spirits together - celebrating women AND supporting you to rise..
