✴️ SHOULD WORK BE THIS MUCH FUN?! 🤩✴️

Sometimes the thrill of a live event is unbeatable! 🥰

On Monday I had the incredible experience of co-hosting HSBC’s Emerging Talent Induction 2025

- and it was even more epic than the usual! 🎉

🔥 Not just 100 keen & engaged grads in a room with a beautiful view in Canary Wharf

🔥 But simultaneous broadcasts to 1600 grads globally, in-person in Reading, China & Hong Kong, and virtually.

(I’m so pleased I was doing the talking, and had nothing to do with the tech - they did amazingly 🤩🙌)

So fun working with my amazing co-hosts Paul Morris and Caz Jones, and all of the wonderful HSBC team.

And a big thank you to all the grads who were spectacular:

- engaged, positive, and brimming with enthusiasm for their careers 🥰

✴️ TO CRY, OR NOT TO CRY...? 🤷‍♀️✴️

I warned a client today I might cry 😭

(New HRT, extra emotional 😆)

I can be honest about it now.

- but it hasn’t always felt OK to cry... ☹️

I once challenged my boss about unfair pay.

In the awkwardness, the emotions took over - and I cried 😢

Not because I was sad, but because it was DIFFICULT 😬

- and I didn't know how to ask for what I wanted 🤷‍♀️

My boss was kind.

But, as you can imagine, the negotiation didn’t go my way... 😞

Crying DIDN'T help me that day ☹️

I think there are times when it’s GOOD to show emotion at work 🧡

- but there are also times when it doesn’t serve us ❌

The key is holding it together when you really want to 💪

✴️ BECAUSE MY DAUGHTER'S WATCHING 😍✴️

Some days I worry I'm not getting it right 🥺

Being a mum, a partner, having a career... it’s messy 😩

But one reason I keep going?

My daughter, who turns 12 today 😍

I want her to see that she never has to choose just one version of herself 🙁

That while you can’t have it ALL, you can choose a balance that works for you 😊💪

Every time one of my clients shakes off Imposter Syndrome and steps into leadership on THEIR terms

- they make the next generation feel like it’s possible 🤩

And that’s how change happens! 😁✨

So if you’re juggling today - thank you 🥰

And keep going!

✴️ BUT WHAT DO *YOU* WANT? 🤷‍♀️✴️

Do you feel like you're constantly shape-shifting to fit in? 🤔

One of my clients told me:

“I change who I am in every interaction” 🫥

And this is particularly common with Imposter Syndrome, which often comes with people-pleasing tendencies... ☹️

Of course, some adapting is normal - you probably wouldn’t behave the same way at tea with the King as you would at home with your family… 😆☕️👑

But when you’re always reading the room, managing others’ comfort, being what they need

- it’s exhausting, and lonely 😞

And it comes at a cost:

- you forget to think about what YOU want 😶

🔥 So before any situation, ask yourself:

✅ What outcome do *I* want from this?

You’re allowed to think about yourself - not just everyone else! 😊

✴️ OVERTHROW THE TYRANNICAL SHOULD 💪✴️

Are you ruled by the Tyrannical Should? 😱

❌ “I should do more.”
❌ “I should cope better.”
❌ “I should work harder.”

I was - and it’s EXHAUSTING! 😩

It's very common when you struggle with Imposter Syndrome

- and it keeps you stuck in a terrible negative mindset 🥺

"Should" is a stick we use to beat ourselves with

But you can change this! 😁✨

🔥 Swap ‘I should’ for ‘I choose’, or ‘I could’, or 'I want'

- it sounds tiny, but it gives you back the power! 😊💪

🔥 Next time you spot a Should, try it

See how much lighter & clearer you feel 😊

✴️ SUNDAY BLUES - PERFECTIONISM IN DISGUISE? ✴️

It’s Sunday night

- have you got that sinking feeling in your stomach...? 😩

💡 But sometimes the “Sunday blues” aren’t actually about work.

- they’re about the pressure we put on ourselves to do work PERFECTLY.

ie that insidious disease, perfectionism... 🥺

(In my house, the word "perfect" is banned. Although my daughter has made a strong case that you can have a perfect circle, so I’ve made an exception for geometry... 😆)

Remember, you don’t need to have a "perfect" meeting, day or week.

You just need to make progress! 😁💪

So what could progress look like tomorrow? 🤔

When we tie our sense of self to our role, every setback feels personal 😔

(And this is especially common when you suffer from Imposter Syndrome… 😩)

❗️But you’re not your job title!

When you know who you are beyond work, the tough days don’t shake you the same way 💪

But once the sessions stop, real life kicks back in

- and you can forget what you learned 🥺

So how do you make it stick? 🤷‍♀️

🔥 3 ways to keep the growth going 🔥

1️⃣ Visual reminders: what you see, you can be.

2️⃣ Ask your Inner cheerleader: check in, "What would Kirsten/ your coach say?”

3️⃣ Watch for warning signs: identify your unhelpful patterns early, & respond on purpose.

The golden thread between all of these?

REFLECTION 🤔

Self-awareness is the first step

✴️ LET THEM BARK 🐶 ✴️

“You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks.”

It’s VE Day today, and that quote, often linked to Churchill, feels especially relevant ✨

Because when you start showing up and standing out, you often attract negativity 🥺

It’s not fun, and if you struggle with Imposter Syndrome, it can sound very familiar to the horrible voice in your head... 😩

But don’t get distracted by the barking! 😎

⛔️ Not every voice needs a response.

⛔️ Not every opinion deserves your energy.

There will always be people who disagree with you, and learning to be OK with that is important 😊💪

You keep focussed on YOUR destination 🎯

✴️ ROOT DOWN, SPEAK UP ✴️

Do you ever freeze when it’s your turn to speak in a meeting? 😱

Your mind goes blank. Your voice disappears.

You know you had something say - but it's just not coming out... 😶

If you’ve ever struggled with Imposter Syndrome, you’ll know this moment all too well 😩

This is your nervous system is detecting threat - and going into freeze mode 🥶

But the good news is that you CAN interrupt that freeze response! 😁

Use a simple grounding trick:

👣 focus on your feet on the floor
🌳 feel roots growing down through the floor into the earth
🌍 feel the strength and energy of the earth flowing back into you

And with the magic of the mind-body connection, your fear response will stop! 😊💪

✴️ WORK BRAVER 💪✴️

Are you waiting to feel confident before you act? 🤔

It sounds reasonable - but it’s one of the biggest myths that holds people back

- especially when you struggle with Imposter Syndrome 🥺

I hear it from clients all the time:

“I just need to feel more confident… then I’ll go for it" 😐

💡 But confidence is the RESULT, not the requirement

It comes AFTER action, not before.

And what gets you to take that first step? 🤷‍♀️

🔥 COURAGE

So instead of waiting to feel ready, ask yourself:

🔥 “What’s one small step I can take right now?”

❌ Don’t work harder.

❌ Don’t even work smarter...

✅ Work BRAVER 🚀

Because confidence is on the other side of action 😁💪

✴️ HELTER SKELTER OR SPIRAL STAIRCASE? 🌪️✴️

Ever feel like your thoughts are spiralling and you can’t stop them? 😱

This is very common, especially when you struggle with hashtag 🥺

I used to be like that - especially with panic attacks...

One tiny trigger, like my heart beating fast from running for the tube, and my brain would go:

‼️ “I’m having a panic attack!”

And then I’d be right in the middle of one 😱

It felt like a helter skelter - one thought, and I was spinning all the way down before I could stop myself ꩜

💪 But I learned something crucial:

to turn the helter skelter into a spiral staircase ✨

Now when I catch myself heading into an negative spiral, I pause on the top step ⏸️

- and I choose to walk back UP! ↗️

So next time you notice the start of your spiral, whether it's a negative thought or a physical symptom, ask yourself:

❓ “Am I on the helter skelter - or the spiral staircase?” 🤔

You can learn to walk back up too 🥰
