🌿🐀 A little bit about how we do things at Aim Pest Control…

As a local, family-run business, something we're particularly proud of is the way we approach pest control — especially when it comes to rats and mice.
Aim Pest Control Ltd is a member of the National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA), and we work in line with the CRRU UK Code of Best Practice for responsible rodent control.
Now, we appreciate that NPTA and CRRU probably don't mean very much to most people! 😄
So, in plain English…
Good pest control isn't simply about turning up and putting poison down.
We look at the bigger picture.
🔎 Why are the pests there?
🚪 How are they getting in?
🍞 What's providing food, water or shelter?
🧱 Can we proof the property to help stop them returning?
🎯 What's the most appropriate method of control?
🦉 And how can we solve the problem while minimising unnecessary risks to wildlife and other animals?
Where rodenticides are necessary, responsible use matters. That includes careful placement, monitoring the treatment, keeping appropriate records, looking for and removing rodent bodies, and removing bait when treatment is finished.
Why are we telling you this?
Because we think customers should know there's a difference between simply killing a pest and providing professional pest management.
We're proud to be an NPTA member, proud to follow responsible rodenticide stewardship principles, and proud to provide pest-control services to homes and businesses throughout West Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
We're also very grateful for the ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reviews and recommendations we receive from local customers. As a family business, they genuinely mean a great deal to us.
If you've got a problem with rats, mice or another pest — or you've simply found something you're not sure about — you're always welcome to give us a call for some advice.

Not long now until Yellow-legged Asian Hornet Week from 7th–13th September.

A timely reminder to keep an eye out for this invasive hornet as we head into peak season. Spotting and reporting is what keeps it from establishing here, and everyone can lend a pair of eyes.

🐝 Anyone else feel like the wasps have moved in for the summer?

You sit outside with a cold drink, everything’s peaceful… and within about 30 seconds there’s an uninvited guest hovering around your glass. 😄

With the warm, dry weather we’ve been having across West Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, wasps are certainly making their presence known.

At this time of year, nests can be home to thousands of wasps, and as summer progresses the workers become increasingly interested in sugary food and drinks. Hence the sudden fascination with your lemonade, ice cream or afternoon pint! 🍦🥤

If you’re seeing a steady stream of wasps disappearing into the same spot around your roof, wall, air brick, shed or outbuilding, there’s a good chance you’ve got an active nest nearby.

⚠️ A quick word of advice: please don’t be tempted to block the entrance.

It might seem like a good idea, but the wasps don’t simply pack their bags and leave. They’ll often look for another route out – and if the nest is within the structure of your property, that alternative route could potentially be inside.

And while wasps are stealing the limelight at the moment, we’re still dealing with the usual suspects too – including ants, rats, mice, fleas and other unwanted visitors.

So, if something is buzzing, scratching, biting or generally living somewhere it hasn’t been invited, feel free to give us a shout. We’re always happy to offer some advice. 👍

🐀 Rodent Activity Is Increasing During Hot Weather ☀️

Many people think rats and mice become less active during the summer months — but warmer weather can actually drive them closer to our homes and businesses.

In hot, dry conditions, rodents actively search for:
💧 Water
🍽️ Food
🏠 Shelter

This is why we often see increased activity around:
✔️ Drains and gutters
✔️ Kitchens and utility rooms
✔️ Bin storage areas
✔️ Gardens and outdoor spaces
✔️ Commercial waste areas

Rats, in particular, need regular access to water, which makes leaking pipes, standing water, pet bowls, and overflowing bins especially attractive during warmer periods.

⚠️ Signs to watch for:
• Scratching noises in lofts or walls
• Droppings around kitchens or storage areas
• Gnaw marks on packaging or cables
• Increased activity around drains and bins

✅ Prevention Tips:
• Repair leaks quickly
• Keep bins sealed
• Remove easy food sources
• Seal entry points around your property

Early action is always the best defence against a larger infestation.

If you’re concerned about rodent activity around your property, contact us today for professional advice and effective solutions.

🐝🌼 Happy World Bee Day 🌼🐝

They may be tiny, but bees play a HUGE role in keeping our world alive.

From pollinating flowers and crops to supporting biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, bees are responsible for helping nature — and humanity — thrive. Without them, many of the foods and plants we rely on every day simply wouldn’t exist.

But bees are facing increasing challenges from habitat loss, pesticides, climate change, and environmental disruption.

Sadly, bees also sometimes establish colonies in places where they can become a danger to the public or even to buildings themselves — such as roof spaces, wall cavities, schools, chimneys, and commercial properties. In these situations, responsible and humane management is essential to protect both people and pollinators.

Protecting bees doesn’t just mean admiring them from afar — it means supporting safe relocation, preserving habitats, planting bee-friendly flowers, and understanding the important balance between conservation and public safety.

This World Bee Day, let’s all do our part to protect one of nature’s hardest workers. 💛

🌤️ Have you noticed more wasps around lately?

With the warmer weather settling in across West Suffolk, South Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, we’re already seeing a rise in wasp activity—especially in areas like Bury St Edmunds, Ely, Newmarket and Cambridge 🐝

This time of year, queen wasps come out of hibernation and start building new nests. What might look like a small problem now can quickly turn into a much bigger one in just a few weeks…

👀 Watch out for:
• Wasps flying in and out of rooflines or air vents
• Activity around sheds, fences or garden spaces
• Small nests starting to form

⚠️ The earlier you deal with it, the easier (and safer) it is.

We’re already helping local homeowners get ahead of the problem before nests grow and become more aggressive later in the summer.

💬 If you’re unsure, feel free to drop us a message or comment below—we’re always happy to help.
