We came across this little fellow, unable to fly, risking life and limb on a footpath yesterday.

After putting her somewhere safe, we popped out for a couple of hours but on our return, found her clutching to the same daffodil we left her on.
Concerned for her safety, we brought her home with us and put her safely into a warm and dark box with a little portion of sugar water for sustenance.

This morning, with the sun shining, I opened the box to see how she was doing and her wings started buzzing enough to get some height.
Within seconds, she took off out of the box and on her merry way.

All that was needed was a little warmth, sugar water and somewhere safe overnight.

A fantastic outcome which could have turned out so differently.

"Swarming" is a bee colony's natural means of reproduction.
This is mainly a Spring phenomenon where upwards of 60% of the worker bees leave an original hive to make way for a new home.

Without a nest and stores of honey to defend, swarming bees are at their most docile. Swarms rarely stay in one place for more than a day, so chances are the bees will leave on their own if left alone.

With Spring fast approaching, If you come across a swarm, it's important not to panic and best to call a bee removal expert who will happily come and collect the bees and take them to a new hive to establish their new home.

This took place in a busy city centre pub in Cardiff back in 2016.

It's an amazing sight.

The insects were rescued by a beekeeper after sending drinkers dashing for safety at The Yard bar and kitchen in St Mary Street, Cardiff
