Some businesses start with a gap in the market. Others start because somebody experiences something firsthand and decides things need to be better. ๐ง๐ต๐ฎ๐'๐ ๐ต๐ผ๐ AP Cymru - The Neurodiversity Charity ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ด๐ฎ๐ป.
Founder Karen Mills started the charity in 2008 following the diagnosis of her youngest son. Two years later, her eldest son received his diagnosis, and in 2018 Karen herself was diagnosed as autistic. What started as one family's journey has grown into a charity supporting neurodivergent children, young people and families across Wales.
What makes AP Cymru different is that so much of the support comes from lived experience. The majority of the team are neurodivergent themselves, or parents of neurodivergent children. They understand the questions, the challenges and the emotions because they've lived them too. Over the years, Karen and the team have supported thousands of neurodivergent people and their families, while holding on to the warm, family feel that AP Cymru is known for.
Reading Karen's story, it's easy to see why. This was never just a job. It was personal from the very beginning ๐ซถ
