Our offices will be closed from Wednesday 24th December until Monday 5th January, allowing our team to take a well-earned break. For now, our elves are working hard to wrap things up before Christmas so if you need something in a hurry just let us know. We are delighted to be one of the sponsors for the Ladies team at Perranporth Cricket Club this year. They are currently raising funds for some much needed training nets to ensure they have enough training equipment for their growing Ladies section.

For Wheal Wednesday today, we are looking at how machinery and other important parts of mines were transported.

A Holman’s boiler passing through St Just pulled by a team of horses, enroute from the Holman’s factory at Camborne to the Levant Mine, near St Just, 1907.

The haulage contractor was James Thomas of St Agnes and is in the photo.

Until quite recently this was how all the hardware for the many Cornish mines had to be transported around Cornwall, and the cost of haulage was a major expense for mining contractors.
