How inspiring it is to watch the Olympics this week! What have you found the most impressive? My favourite story is definitely the youngest Olympian from the GB Team - 13 year old skateboarder Sky Brown 😎

Even more impressive is that she’s never even had a coach, learning many of her tricks by herself, and loves her training as to her it’s just ‘going skating’.

Here in Cambridge there are some amazing skate parks for skaters of all abilities, but for any new skaters, Shredder Skate School are running coaching sessions throughout the summer for anyone looking to pick up the basics!

With the Olympics starting this week, it’s time to look at what Cambridge has done for the Olympic Games!

This article explains how engineers at Cambridge University have revolutionised cycling in just the last few years, which is understandable as it’s a hub for both science and biking:

From the article: “One of the joys of being at Cambridge is meeting people who have real expertise in all kinds of areas. They give you a different way of thinking.”

Innovations, such as the futuristic-looking bike pictured here, are necessary to pushing the sport forward. Even if a new idea is invented in Cambridge, it will quickly be adopted all over the world as teams learn from each other and fight for every advantage they can get - the thrill of competition!!

Happy Birthday to the Botanic Garden!! 175th anniversary!!

Growing in the heart of Cambridge, less than a kilometer away from King’s College, the Botanic Garden is a surprising place to find so much natural diversity. However, this much appreciated breath of fresh air for Cambridge residents and tourists alike was definitely one of the unexpected benefits of relocating to Cambridge!

This summer the Garden is hosting monthly talks about both local and international discoveries in plant-science. Whether you are an expert botanist, or simply looking to spend an afternoon learning about beautiful plant-life from around the world, the Botanic Gardens will have something just for you! 🌱

Cycling! It’s the ideal way to get around in Cambridge! Whether you’re visiting friends, going shopping, or simply passing through town, our thriving cycling culture makes two wheels the perfect way to go about your day.

What makes the culture of biking in Cambridge so successful is two aspects: firstly, facilities such as separate paths for pedalists, cycle parks to lock your bike, and plenty of repair shops all around town, makes biking far easier and safer. Second, and perhaps more important, is how normal biking is here. This is perhaps no surprise as cyclists make up over a third of all trips around Cambridge, but it means that arriving by bike is expected, accepted, and respected by everyone you meet!

For these reasons, it is no wonder why Cambridge is considered Britain’s cycling capital!

Did you know that an average adult in the UK will drink 2 cups of coffee every day? While we may be a country mostly famous for our love of tea, Brits are by no means opposed to a warm morning brew! How many of the ones here do you recognise?

One thing that definitely surprised me when relocating to Cambridge was just how many coffee drinkers there are here! It’s impossible to find a town or village that’s not packed with small cafés and coffee-shops - all the more reason to enjoy the joys of coffee wherever you find yourself!

There's never been a better time to go to The Orchard in Grantchester and enjoy the summer in this picturesque tea garden! Delicious Team Cream scones, astonishing blooming apple trees, and a retreat for locals and tourists alike, it truly is a paradise with a fascinating history!

During the first half of the 20th century, the Orchard attracted a party of local university students - known as the Grantchester Group - which soon grew to include poet Rupert Brooke, writer Virginia Woolf, economist John Keynes, philosopher Ludwig Wittgernstein, and more, making the Orchard an unlikely hotspot for the great minds of Cambridge.
