A follower count is crucial. Sure.

But that isn't the only factor in why customers purchase from you.

I recall that The Cheeky Girls once topped the UK charts.

Their music was terrible, so I didn't see why.
But the way they were packaged helped them sell so many copies.

A purchaseable "picture"

Therefore, even though I believe having a large number of followers is important, how you present yourself and your service is more important.

Your customers don’t care about a lot of things you care about!

Here are some of those things👇🏼

1. Fancy design: It’s functionality over beauty for a lot of customers!

2. Your achievements: They only care about what you can achieve for them.

3. Too much information: This is too overwhelming and it tunes people out. Make sure you’re sweet and concise with how you pass across your information!

4. You: Sorry to burst your bubble, customers don’t care about you. They care about themselves. So put them first.

5. Your product: The features of your product don’t matter much! As long as it gets your customers to where they wish to go! So talk more benefits over features!

6. Your looks: The way you look don’t matter! Don’t let that stop you from putting yourself out there! What matters is the value you’re giving!

7. Being smart: Being too smart makes it hard to figure you out! And when people can’t figure you out on time, you lose them! Be simple and clear instead!

8. Perfection: Nobody cares about being perfect! So that little dot you forgot to add on that design won’t let them buy from you. Be good enough and consistent!

1. A website on its own won’t do the job you want it to! Your website should be a part of your sales funnel! So create a sales funnel that converts strangers to customers!

2. You don’t need as many customers as you think! Work on a retaining strategy to keep the ones you already have while not being desperate chasing new ones. Remember, the money is in repeat business!

3. Many business owners waste top dollar trying to be on every marketing platform. This is only burning your energy and resources. Instead, get super clear on your ideal customers and where they are, and be present!

I never set out with the aim to “monetize” social media.

I needed a creative outlet during the lockdown. But...

I did choose to channel my expertise into the design and put some sales content out there.

After about a month.... an incoming inquiry. Seriously, I was gobsmacked!

I charged an extremely low rate for hours of “coaching”.

But since then, I’ve been able to turn this into a sustainable business.

If you’re an online service provider with clients already, you’ll probably agree... that the first sale changes everything.
