Good Morning Everyone, it's Lindsay Batoryk, Head of Marketing and Comms at Dardan speaking directly to you all this morning!

As we have seen all over LinkedIn this morning, it is International Womens Day today, the theme for 2022 is 'Break The Bias'.

I am speaking directly to you today as a woman in security who has been asked the same question we all have throughout our careers in this industry.....'what's it like being a woman in this industry?'

I really dislike this question, what does it matter? I am a person in the security industry.

For us to we must call out stereotyping, gender bias and discrimination in any form, I count myself very fortunate to work for an organisation with a number of women in senior management positions as well as the exceptional females we have in frontline positions. I started my career as a zero hours relief officer and worked exceptionally hard to get to where I am today.

It's a shame that we need a day to recognise women and raise awareness of the ongoing issues, it shouldn't be a matter for discussion but we continue to live in a very strange world.

For those that know me, know that I am not backwards in coming forwards, I will continue to call out any bias and ask first and foremost, please don't ask what it is like being a woman in this industry. Instead ask about my work, about Dardan. These are things that matter to me as a professional.

There are still issues that need to be addressed but making small changes will make a difference.

Happy International Womens Day to each incredible woman that I am proud to call a colleague or friend.

Time to Talk Day is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation, it’s the day that friends, families, communities, and workplaces come together to talk, listen and change lives.

Today is about us all being open to the idea of talking – we all have mental health, and by having conversations about it we can help ourselves and others. It’s not about encouraging people to talk about a mental health problem if they don’t want to.

Asking others how they’re doing are simple ways to start conversations about mental health and show the people in your life you’re prepared to talk and listen without judgment.

If someone does open up about their mental health, we know it might not always feel easy to know what to say. But it doesn’t have to be awkward, and being there for someone can make a big difference.

There is no right way to talk about mental health; however, we have 5 tips that can help make sure you’re approaching it in a helpful way:

1 - Ask questions and listen
2 - Think about time and place - sometimes its easier to talk side by side than face to face, try it whilst walking or cooking.
3 - Don't try and fix it - unless someone has asked for your advice directly, just your ability to listen and be there can be very powerful
4 - Treat them the same as anyone else - having mental health struggles doesn't define a person
5 - Be patient

*INSERT DEEP EXHALE HERE* The first week of 2022 is over!

The first of week after the festive break is arguably one of the most difficult, especially after what seemed to feel like an especially long period between Christmas and New Year.

But whilst for many of us, we are starting to wind down for the weekend, we mustn't forget that the week isn't actually done quite yet. Whether you've made New Years Resolutions or are still unsure as to what you want to achieve this year, our attitudes and actions set the tone for how the rest of the year will unfold.

Let's use the next couple of days to reset and welcome next week with a smile on our faces!

As the final few days are counting down to the festive period, we wanted to thank each and every one of our people for their hard work and commitment through what continues to be an incredibly challenging time for us all.

We look forward to when we can do this in person but until then, we wanted to share some appreciation in our own little way.

We've definitely got that today!

For Remembrance Day this year, the team at Dardan set ourselves our very own 11/11 challenge. For 11 days we would either give something up or commit to doing something every one of those 11 days.

Some of our sacrifices included caffeine, chocolate and social media with commitments including exercising and increasing daily steps to 11k per day.

Our challenge wasn't all about us though, we wanted to raise money for Royal British Legion and the incredible work that they do for those that have and continue to make the ultimate sacrifice for us.

We are thrilled to have raised a fantastic £300, these donations were made by individuals as well as collective donations by some of our site teams, we cannot thank everyone enough for either sacrificing, committing or more importantly, donating.

For the briefest of moments we were able to keep this team of Duracell bunnies still.....but obviously not for long!

We are thrilled to be sponsoring the Brightlingsea Regent U14s. The team was formed in 2012 when they started playing in the Colchester and District League at U7s in 2014.

In 2020, the team merged with Wivenhoe Town U12s to create the club you see here today. In their first season in the Colchester and District B League, they won the league and were promoted to the A League. The team also won the Wivenhoe Tempest pre season tournament this summer.

We're looking forward to following the teams certain success!
