At over 51cm across, it’s one of the largest Gainsborough drawings ever discovered outside the Royal Collection, and it hasn’t been seen in public for more than 80 years.
Gifted by the artist himself to Goodenough Earle of Taunton, Somerset… and now heading to auction for the first time in generations.

Hidden for decades. Now coming to auction. 📸

This May, we’re proud to present a remarkable collection of works by Joseph McKenzie, widely regarded as the father of modern Scottish photography.

From the streets of the Gorbals to Belfast during the Troubles, McKenzie documented lives and communities rarely seen, capturing hardship, resilience and humanity with extraordinary honesty.
Featuring rare vintage prints, unseen works from a vast archive of thousands of images and the unique “Beatles dress” photograph offered alongside the original dress worn in the image. Many of the pictures offered are the only existing version or from a very limited edition of prints. Being sold by Frank McKenzie, son of the photographer and founder of Xupes, who has dedicated his life to championing his father’s work. Just in time for Photo London!
