⚠ Omicron business grants - please share ⚠

Grants of up to £6,000 are now available to hospitality and leisure businesses across the district which have suffered the effects of the disruption caused by the Omicron Covid-19 variant.

Businesses have until 14 February this year to apply for help from the government scheme, which we are administering on its behalf. The final payments will be made by 31 March.

The Omicron Leisure and Hospitality grants are property based and will be paid to whoever pays the business rates. Some businesses may get more than one grant where they have more than one eligible property.

Find out more and apply for the grant at https://news.canterbury.gov.uk/news/article/282/hospitality-and-leisure-businesses-urged-to-apply-for-omicron-cash

A joint operation in the city centre yesterday focused on the important issue of underage sales.

Partners involved included officers from the city council and Kent Police, Canterbury District Watch, Canterbury BID, Kent Trading Standards and Community Alcohol Partnership.

Thirteen independent retailers and national supermarkets were visited and information about underage sales and keeping young people safe was provided.

There were very productive discussions with traders and support for what the operation was aiming to achieve.

Thanks to all who took part and to the retailers. Further operations on underage sales are planned in the future.

We're excited to announce the availability of 15 new self-contained units at Whitstable Harbour's stunning new South Quay Shed.

The units, which will be ready in the autumn, have permission for a wide range of uses, including retail, restaurant, cafe, hot-food takeaway and leisure purposes.

We're expecting a lot of interest and preference will be given to businesses that:

➡ are local
➡ are sole traders rather than large organisations
➡ will boost jobs locally
➡ do not use single-use plastics
➡ stick to sustainable business practices
➡ demonstrate benefits to the local economy or harbour-related trades

To register your interest or to find out more, please email [email protected].
