Many families don’t realise that memorials can sometimes be insured against damage, vandalism, or severe weather.

In our latest guide, we explore what memorial insurance is, what it typically covers, and whether it may be worth considering for protecting a loved one’s memorial long-term.

It’s a topic many people never think about until they need it - so we hope this guide offers some helpful insight and reassurance.

At the heart of Llandaff, there is a cathedral that has stood in some form for nearly nine hundred years. It has seen this community through plague, through fire, through the blitz bombs that damaged the nave in January 1941 — and it stands today as a place where the west Cardiff community still gathers to mark the things that matter most.

On 8 May, VE Day, we will mark 81 years since Victory in Europe. Across Ely, Caerau, Canton, and Llandaff, that anniversary carries personal meaning for many families — memories passed down from grandparents and great-grandparents who served, or who waited, or who received news they had been dreading.

At Mossfords, we have served families across west Cardiff for many years. We work on Cowbridge Road West, but our work takes us into churchyards and cemeteries across this part of the city — and we know how much those carved names mean to the families who still visit them. This VE Day, they are in our thoughts.

Gyda chariad a pharch — with love and respect.

We’re taking a moment to reflect on one of our standout projects - a bespoke water feature in Barry, South Wales.

As part of the Grade II-listed Eastern Shelter regeneration on Barry Island, our team crafted a bespoke stone water feature that blends timeless masonry with the lively coastal environment. Made from Forest of Dean sandstone and cleverly engineered with low-maintenance mist jets and colour-changing lighting, the feature continues to delight visitors of all ages - adding both aesthetic appeal and interactive enjoyment to this beloved destination.

Proud of our craftsmanship, and proud to contribute to public spaces where communities gather, connect, and enjoy meaningful experiences. Read more below:

We are immensely proud to have supported our commercial stonemasonry division, Stone Sign Company, in bringing the Believe Organ Donor Support memorial garden to life.

The new Believe Garden is a truly meaningful space for reflection and remembrance, and it’s been an honour to contribute to its creation. Our team was responsible for crafting and installing 15 natural stone boulders with inset granite plaques, along with four entrance markers, a wayfinding stone, and a beautifully designed memory bowl.

Projects like this remind us why stone is such a powerful material - enduring, respectful, and perfectly suited to telling stories that matter. Well done to everyone involved in creating a place that will offer comfort and connection for years to come.
