A find on a recent premises visit - A designated fire escape route and final fire exit unavailable and obstructed, however alternative means of escape was available. It’s important to ensure designated exits aren’t like this, if unsure seek competent advice or refer to your fire risk assessment.

Really enjoyed delivery of Asbestos Awareness Training Sessions for Selected Schools Staff from ‘Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council’, and with the recently announced HSE Inspection of Asbestos Management in Schools, some would say this was very well timed.

A recent find during a managed premises visit – please make sure visual pre use checks are undertaken of portable electrical appliances, and where any defects, damage or significant deterioration is noted, the equipment is removed from use.

In service combined inspection and testing (PAT testing) labelling would also be visually checked should it be present (wasn’t in this case).

Electricity, especially 230-240 volt supply can kill, please treat it with respect and work safely

A recent premises visit, where the keys were found in the fire alarm panel of a managed communal area, leaving potential for any person (including visitor) to not only disable the fire alarm but also steal the keys. It’s not advisable to leave the keys in alarm panels in such areas, however they should be readily accessible for authorised persons/building managers.

Really pleased to work with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council Education and Inclusion Services Department with delivery of Health & Safety training for school caretakers and site managers. They have shown an excellent approach and are a credit to their schools and the local authority.

Unsure whether to post speed signage at all or at 5 or 10 mph on your managed site ? The decision is down to risk assessment and consideration of the nature, character of and uses of the internal vehicle and pedestrian routes over 24hrs not just during daytime hours, this is part of the ‘safe site’ approach as advised by Health and Safety Executive in managing traffic risks
