Cardiff Theatrical Services Scenery Building Cardiff Theatrical Services (CTS) provides a world-class, scenery building, and finishing service for opera and production companies.

Clients include Glyndebourne Festival and Touring Opera, ATG, Star Events, the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and Opera North. The CTS workshops cover 31,360 sq ft – entire productions requiring metalwork, carpentry, painting, finishing and fitting up can be created and fully built in the workshops, making it cost effective and efficient for outsourced construction. We have a wealth of

experienced staff who we can draw upon to make your project run as smootly as possible. Established in 1984, CTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Welsh National Opera.

Sometimes certain shows get a second life. Sinatra the Musical is moving from Birmingham Rep to it's new home in the Aldwych Theatre in London (tickets on sale now!). We had the joy of refurbishing the old set as well as creating a few new pieces to fit the new space. Join one of our scenic team as they do the repetitive but super-important work of one element of the Sinatra the Musical.

We took some footage a little while ago of the many, many, many… flowers, leaves and grasses that went into Royal Opera House's Siegfried's verdant meadow.

This production garnered wonderful 5 star reviews from the Guardian who called it an "invigorating and mesmerising staging, with Schager outstanding as Wagner’s hero"

We were lucky enough to recently have had a demonstration of the Theo MA1 Series Laser welding equipment at CTS: Kindly arranged by Geartrodes and Wilkinson Laser Weld and our Andrew Church, demonstrated by Nathan from the Theo Academy. The new state of the art equipment was tested by various members of the CTS Team in their demo van, with viewing gallery!

Great to see the CTS team acting like "kids in a sweetshop" trying the laser welder with excellent results. Abi Emmett and Ali Head taking to it as ducks to water, and Will Moulds holding up his excellent work in the photos... Even though they say "you can't teach and old dog new tricks" - Our MD Ed Wilson (as an older non-welder) managed decent results too!!

Fantastic equipment and a genuine potential game changer for us and our industry. Quality and delivered quickly and efficiently!

A little behind the scenes peek at the backcloth for Wagner's The Flying Dutchman, currently playing at the Welsh National Opera until the 15th May.

In this set of images we see Scenic Art Supervisor, Nina Siddall and her colleague working on this large backcloth, creating the abstract texture to match the samples agreed with the designer. The design of the production is by Elin Steele, a long time collaborator with CTS.
