Cardiff Theatrical Services Scenery Building Cardiff Theatrical Services (CTS) provides a world-class, scenery building, and finishing service for opera and production companies.

Clients include Glyndebourne Festival and Touring Opera, ATG, Star Events, the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and Opera North. The CTS workshops cover 31,360 sq ft – entire productions requiring metalwork, carpentry, painting, finishing and fitting up can be created and fully built in the workshops, making it cost effective and efficient for outsourced construction. We have a wealth of experienced staff who we can draw upon to make your project run as smootly as possible. Established in 1984, CTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Welsh National Opera.

Way back in 2017 we had the pleasure to build the scenery for a great production of Adrian Mole.

This classic bit of liturature was set in 1980s Leicester, and Sue Townsend‘s The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾, follows the daily dramas and misadventures of Adrian’s adolescent life.

With dysfunctional parents, ungrateful elders, a growing debt to school bully Barry Kent and an unruly pimple on his chin, life is hard for a misunderstood intellectual who is only 13 ¾… To top it off, when new girl Pandora joins the class and captures his heart, his best friend Nigel steals hers. Can Adrian win her love and escape from his chaotic family life?

Some time ago we had the pleasure of building the amazing Les Mis production. The intricacies of the set made it a fine challenge for the whole team. Now we've recreated some elements of the production for the limited run show from July to August this year.

These few shots show the huge amount of specialist finishing that went into the whole show to create the wonderful feel through such detailed faux finishes.

Join us for a brief look behind the scenes of the construction of Death Note, the brilliant new musical running in the Barbican Centre.

Based on the fantastic manga series, which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, it brings the global phenomenon to the London stage in a brand-new production.

Directed by Stephen Whitson, with choreography by Fabian Aloise, set design by , costume design by Sachiko Nakahara, lighting by Jen Schriever, sound by Peter Hylenski, and video design by Akhila Krishnan.

Last month we gave a round up of some of the shows we'd recenlty completed and we thought we'd also like to share some production and fit up shots of a few of these.

Wow! We've never seen this workshop so clean.

As part of the continued investment into Health & Safety, we recently cleared the carpentry shop for updates to ventilation and more.

Carpentry workshops are naturally recognised by the HSE as a high-risk environment. Not surprising with the high speed blades in action daily along with airbourne particles, vibration and noise (to name some of the hazards) . So we're committed to ensuring our team are looked after with regular reviews and updates to the workshop.

We're dipping back into April 2024 to remind ourselves of this beautiful production of Macbeth.

This epic, immersive production staring Ralph Fiennes, adapted by Emily Burns, designed by Frankie Bradshaw () and directed by Simon Godwin was hugely successful in its runs in Liverpool, Edinburgh and London.

The audience entrance to the auditorium took them through the battleground and past the beautifully painted and textured tracking Copper Walls made by CTS.

The brief to CTS for this production was to build the main playing area, including faux concrete surfaces spattered with blood during every performance, tiled finishes and a range of scenic elements that helped define the world of the play. We also produced extensive masking flats and bespoke off-stage scenery tailored to each venue.
