Anthemion Auctions is a family run business, we carry out valuations for probate or insurance as well as auctioning chattels on our customers' behalf. Our General sales, held on the first Wednesday of every month (bar January) sell a mixture of antique and later furniture, pictures and ceramics. Our Fine Sales held in the middle Wednesday of every March, July and November, sell jewellery, silver, ceramics & glass, furniture, pictures & paintings, military memorabilia & coins and works of art. Our Sports & Collectors' Sales held in the middle Wednesday of every April and October, sell sporting memorabilia and collectors' items such as toys, postcards, stamps etc. Buying at Auction is exciting and varied, if you are starting up home it is the place to buy furniture that is different, has character and is invariably cheaper than that well known Swedish store on the other side of Cardiff! 🔨 Sale results – Monthly General Sale, Wednesday 7th October

A huge thank you to everyone who came to view and bid, in the room and online. It was a lively one! A few highlights:

🪑 Mid-century furniture led the way. A rosewood drum dining table made £650 (est. £300–400), a rosewood executive desk £600, and a set of nine Danish rosewood dining chairs by Johannes Andersen for Uldum £550.

🍽️ A collection of Rosenthal Studio-Linie "Die Zauberflöte" porcelain and glass, designed by Björn Wiinblad, made £1,340 across four lots. That's well over double the top estimates.

🚂 A German live steam stationary plant steamed past its £150–200 estimate to £550.

🏛️ A Ferdinand Barbedienne bronze of Diana of Gabii reached £400.

🧳 And the surprise of the day: two modern leather trunks, estimated at £30–50, sold for £300!

Also doing well: an Ercol elm and beech dining suite (£430), a Chinese powder-blue vase and cover (£280, est. £50–80), a Japanese Meiji carved display cabinet (£280), John Piper's "Luppit, Devon" (£160) and three 19th-century Monmouthshire brass tokens (£130).

Thinking of selling? We're taking entries now for our next sale on Wednesday 4th November. Pop in to see us at 15 Norwich Road, Cardiff CF23 9AB, or send us a few photos.
