When we let go of things we no longer need, there’s an opportunity to give them a second life, and potentially raise money for a cause that matters.

Charity isn’t just about what we donate. It can be our time, our skills, our support, our fundraising or simply sharing the work of a charity we care about.

On this International Day of Charity, please ask yourself:

“Could something I no longer need do some good somewhere else?”

I'm bringing back the Q&As because I think it's important that potential clients get to see the answers to their questions.

All Q&As are on my website but I'm adding them back to Instagram and will keep them as a highlight on my profile.

So, starting with one question I'm often asked when I tell people I'm a PO (professional organiser) and what that entails.

Q1. What is decluttering?

A: Decluttering is the process of removing items from your home that no longer serve you, in order to create a more organised and functional space.

I help clients sort through their belongings, so they can keep only what they need, use or items that bring them joy.

Today marks the start of a new season.

Out with the warmer Summer months, and in with the cooler, more relaxed days of Autumn.

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons. A new term, the countdown to you know what 🎄, and more time spent indoors.

Spending more time inside our homes during the colder months should feel enjoyable. A welcoming, tidy and calm space can help us feel calmer too, making it easier to switch off and enjoy being at home.

Bedroom & Wardrobe Reset:

This project focused on two wardrobes across two bedrooms that had become difficult for my client to manage and navigate.

Working in a small, confined space presented some challenges, but by carefully sorting through the contents, decluttering what was no longer needed and reorganising what remained, we were able to make much better use of the available space.

The aim wasn’t to create a picture-perfect wardrobe, but to create a system that was practical, manageable and suited to my client’s everyday life.

Most importantly, my client was delighted with the finished result, with two wardrobes that are easier to use, easier to maintain and far less overwhelming.

As part of the process, I also made sure the unwanted items were given to good causes: Four bags of clothing and shoes were taken to Noah’s Ark recycling unit, while the unwanted clothes hangers were taken to Tesco for recycling.

Is your child going off to university and you're sat there wondering what they should pack?
Before you start gathering items and belongings, check the accommodation details as some halls of residence and student houses are better equipped than others.

Here's a handy guide of essential items that will ensure they have everything they need before setting off (should they not already be provided at their digs):

Part 4 of the Cottage Reset:

Today I revisited the beautiful cottage in Penarth for the final declutter session...the spare bedroom.

In one corner of the room were boxes full of photographs and memories spanning back decades and across multiple generations.

Today's session was at a much slower pace. One where my client could sit and look through photographs and take time to reflect.

Sometimes decluttering sessions are full on, others are much slower and more reflective. I love to be busy and get on, but on this occasion I had to slow things down to accommodate quiet moments of reflection.

My client told me I was very patient with her today and it's one of my traits I'm proud of.

I always try to adopt the required level of support, patience and pace to suit the individual client and their situation.

At the end of the session we had:

👗 A clear and organised spare wardrobe
📷 Boxes of photographs sorted and labelled, ready for my client to work through at her leisure
🛍️ Bags ready for donation to the charity shop
♻️ Recycling ready to be taken to the tip

I've really enjoyed working at this wonderful property and would love to return....in fact I did!

I got part-way home and realised I'd left my fold up step behind, so had to turn around and drive back 🤦🏼‍♀️

I first discovered the Centre of Excellence courses during lockdown and have gone back many times over the last 7 years to learn something new.

When I decided to take a new career path in 2025, I started looking for the right course to give me the skills and confidence to make it happen. I discovered that the Centre of Excellence offered a business diploma in Professional Decluttering and Organising, and I couldn’t resist!

Chilling like it's a Friday... 🎶 ☀️

I started working with a new client today in a beautiful apartment in Cardiff Bay.

My client had put on some calming music, which made my work on such a hot day even more appealing!

This lovely kitchen already had some established systems in place, they just needed tweaking and resetting.

✨ The chaotic saucepan drawer now looks much calmer
✨ The old Tupperware cupboard now houses crockery and party-ware.

😊 I'm also quite proud of the crockery used for special occasions. I learnt how to stack tea cups like this by watching my late mum do it many years ago. It's a simple trick which allows cups to sit neatly and securely rather than teeter precariously on top of one another.

A busy morning and lots of sensible decisions made to recycle and pass on items that my client no longer uses or loves.

♻️ A car boot full ready for the tip and The Cabin at
✔️ A kitchen that now flows better and has more structure
😊 One happy client who now has a refreshed kitchen, ready for entertaining

A busy morning but lots achieved, and I'm looking forward to working on the next phase soon.
