From idea to reality, faster than ever.

These ring samples were 3D printed on our Formlabs Form 3L using Grey Pro resin for Rebecca Oldfield Jewellery, a CSAD graduate continuing to push her craft forward.

These pieces help clients visualise designs before committing, turning her ideas straight from imagination into something tangible.

A great example of how digital fabrication supports traditional craft, giving makers new ways to develop, test and communicate their work.

From screen to street.

We started with the original artwork, refined and prepared in Illustrator, then precision engraved the designs into Valchromat to capture the fine detail and depth.

Our client - Nigel Talbot then created moulds from the engraved masters, transforming them into cast metal manhole covers.

Here’s a custom build we created for a dedicated James Bond fan, a replica of the ATAC system from the film For Your Eyes Only (1981), originally built using a Philips PTS 6271 Keyboard Numeric.

We’ve also produced props featured in Sherlock Holmes and A Discovery of Witches.

Whether it’s for film, television, theatre, collectors, or events, we can design and fabricate bespoke, screen-accurate pieces tailored to your needs.

As part of our continued SPF-funded outreach, we launched five two-day Velocity Track Challenge workshops in partnership with Bridgend Council, targeting 16-year-olds to encourage them to stay in school and explore careers in engineering and digital fabrication. These sessions introduced students to real-world design and problem-solving, guiding them through the process of building and racing their own laser-cut and 3D-printed cars under tight deadlines just like in an industry setting.

2024 Kicks Off with a Bang at Cardiff Fablab!

It's been a dynamic start to the new year here at Cardiff Fablab, with the excitement of learning and innovation in full swing. We're thrilled to announce that we've already hosted three schools for our DTSLN workshops (Digital Technology Skills Learning Network), setting the tone for a year filled with creativity and exploration.

Today, our students are back, and the lab is bustling with activity once more. In fact, we're so busy that we've had to enlist the help of our very own 'robot army.' You can catch a glimpse of these hardworking Ultimaker robots being printed as our header image!
