How confident do you feel about managing the performance of remote employees? 🤔

Although there are a lot of pros of flexible working, such as increased job satisfaction, work-life balance, staff retention and more, it can sometimes be challenging to manage employees that work too flexibly.

💡 Here are a few tips on how to manage employees working too flexibly from our Director, Kerry Chown, MSc FCIPD:

✔️ Set clear expectations for performance and conduct: involve employees in the goal-setting to increase their buy-in and improve trust.

✔️ Put effective policies and processes in place: understand diverse needs and get more buy-in by asking employees what works for them. Useful tool: employee engagement survey

✔️ Communication is key: do not wait until it's too late - check in to see how the person is doing. Provide effective feedback - give specific examples & allow them to practice modifying those behaviours.

We were delighted to deliver a presentation on employing individuals with additional learning needs at Cardiff and Vale College last week to encourage employers to be more inclusive. 📢

The morning's highlight was hearing the truly inspiring story of Tom Case, DFN Project Search graduate turned Dow employee.

Experience proves time and time again that with the proper support, people with additional learning needs can achieve long-term paid employment with progression opportunities, becoming valuable employees. However, we are also aware that barriers may exist for some.

At Cobalt HR, we strive to continuously challenge the misconceptions about employing people with additional learning needs and highlight the schemes and projects to support employers and potential employees into gaining meaningful employment.
