A different kind of job for Team Dalton ❤️

We were proud to lend a hand with a clean-up at Ronald McDonald House in support of the Megan Mai Foundation a charity that is incredibly close to our hearts.

For us, being a local business has always been about more than the work we do every day. If we have the people, equipment and opportunity to help make a difference, we’ll always do our best to get involved.

The Megan Mai Foundation does incredible work supporting families when they need it most, and we’re proud to continue supporting them however we can.

Found a wasp nest around your home or business? The first rule is don’t disturb it.

❌ Don’t knock it down or poke it
❌ Don’t block the entrance or exit
❌ Don’t spray it with household products
❌ Don’t attempt to burn, flood or destroy it
❌ Don’t stand close to the nest trying to work out how big it is

Disturbing an established nest can cause wasps to become defensive and significantly increase your risk of being stung.

Instead, keep people and pets away, watch the activity from a safe distance and contact a professional for advice.

Nests can also be hidden in wall cavities, lofts, roof spaces, sheds and underground, so the nest you can see might only be part of the picture.

This is exactly why rodent control requires investigation, not assumptions.

We were called out to carry out a CCTV drain survey following evidence of rodent activity at this property. Apart from some minor benching repairs, the drains were in good condition so we kept looking.

After getting onto the flat roof, we found the real problem: two small gaps in the building.

The rats were climbing the wall behind the soil vent pipe, reaching the roof and using these gaps to gain access to the house.

It’s a great example of just how resourceful rats can be and why putting down bait alone doesn’t solve the cause of an infestation.

Our in-house drain surveys allow us to rule out potential access routes, but the investigation doesn’t stop there. We keep looking until we understand how the pests are getting in and what needs to be done to help prevent them returning.

Find the entry point. Fix the problem. Think long-term.

We’ve officially lost count of how many wasp nest call-outs we’ve attended this season… but let’s just say, it’s been A LOT!

From lofts and sheds to wall cavities, roof spaces and nests underground, we’ve found them in just about every possible location.

At this point in the season, nests can be well established and contain a large number of wasps. If you’re seeing constant activity around the same gap, hole or area of your property, there could be a nest hidden nearby.

Don’t block the entrance, disturb the nest or attempt anything that could put you at risk of multiple stings.

Wasps don’t need an obvious place to build a nest. Give them a sheltered space with access and they can set up in some surprisingly tricky locations.

Common places we find wasp nests include:

• Lofts and roof spaces
• Wall cavities
• Sheds and garages
• Fascias and soffits
• Air vents
• Under decking
• Trees and hedges
• Outbuildings
• Underground in old burrows and holes

One of the biggest signs to look for is regular wasp traffic. If they’re repeatedly entering and leaving the same gap or area, there could be an active nest hidden inside.

Don’t block the entrance or attempt to disturb the nest yourself. At this time of year colonies can be well established, and interfering with them can increase the risk of multiple stings.

She might not be qualified to carry out a drain survey or answer the wasp hotline just yet, but Cariad is still a very important part of our team.

From joining us on days out and checking in on the animals at the farm, to keeping everyone company and generally boosting team morale, she’s never too far away from the action.

Seeing lots of wasps or found a wasps nest? Don’t panic but don’t ignore them either. 🐝

If you notice wasps repeatedly flying to and from the same area, there could be a nest nearby. They’re not always obvious and can be hidden in roof spaces, wall cavities, sheds, under decking or even underground.

If you suspect a nest:

• Keep a safe distance and watch where the wasps are travelling
• Keep children and pets away from the area
• Don’t block the entrance they may find another route out
• Don’t disturb, knock down or attempt to treat the nest yourself
• Don’t use DIY methods or inhumane methods
• Contact a professional for advice

Wasp colonies can become large at this time of year, and disturbing an active nest can significantly increase the risk of stings.
