𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐚𝐦 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰 & 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐞 & 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐭 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐬
𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐒 𝐀𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 (𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐃𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐥): The newly named ‘Michaelmas’ sale of rams saw all classes of terminal sires in very strong demand. A huge crowd of buyers and a great atmosphere around the ring made for a very successful sale. With fertility a major issue further South due to the Bluetongue, plenty of Southern buyers were present. Rams which were fertility tested and BTV selling at a premium. Plenty of the strongest Texel, Suffolk and Cross bred rams £1200-£1400 with the highlight of the sale a Texel from Pilkington Farmers topping the sale at £2300 with this consignment of 31 averaging £1033. The best of the run from EJ & AM Fox, St Johns Kirk to £1700 for Suffolks with Texels to £1450. A good level run from Scottish Borders vendor A & HC Smith, Crumhaughhill sold to £1400 with fellow Borders breeders DJ Texels selling to the same price. At the commercial end, plenty of rams between £800-£1000 and looking very well sold with lesser sorts £400-£600.
𝐁𝐋𝐔𝐄 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐃 𝐋𝐄𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑 & 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐎𝐓 𝐀𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 (𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫): The Leicesters carried on at the same pace as the terminal sires, with Dave Lawson flying to £1800 with his crossing shearling. John Woof, Sedbergh sold his best Traditional Leicester at £1500, with a second at £1350. John and Dick Gorst up at £1200, while the Mabons of Jedburgh it £1000 with the Traditional type. Dave Lawon in form with his lambs at £900,, closely followed by the run from Janet & Jack Huddleston topping at £800. Cheviot Shearlings judging by Simon Lord, Littleborough, the best of the Cheviots rocking to £1000 three times over, twice from The Firm of Nisbit Mill, followed with the 1st prize Hill Type from AA Bentham, Dent. £700-£900 for the better sorts, with the next cut £550-£650.
𝐒𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐃𝐀𝐋𝐄 𝐀𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 (𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐬): A small entry of Swaledale rams met a flying trade with shearlings up £516 on the year averaging £743 whilst aged rams averaged £632 up £341. The pre-sale judging was in the capable hands of Matthew Kitching who made an expert job awarding Champion prize to Michael and John Dawson of Field Head for their 4 shear ram selling for £1300. Matthew awarded Messrs Handley of Thornton Hall 1st prize in the shearling class later selling to Colin Cowgill of Oakhead for £2000. Other leading prices included E & K Bland, Cotegill £1200, £900; TA & RM Dawson, Brow Top £1200; SJ & CJ Handley £1600, £1200; J & A Lawson & Son, Threaber £900.
