Say hello to Jackson, our brand new Head of Cuddles at Vertical Motives!
He’s a Labradoodle with a big heart, a waggy tail and a mission to shake up our daily routine.

Delivering coaching and training is amazing but it can mean a lot of sitting around, Jackson’s here to change that. He’s already encouraging us to get outside, stretch our legs and take a breather with him leading the way!

We engaged in insightful discussions with local business owners, as well as students from .academy, exploring the exciting possibilities of training through Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) platforms.
The room was full of energy, showcasing a strong enthusiasm for innovative training solutions. We are excited to contribute to this fantastic initiative that aims to support both the current and future generations in Angus.

Yesterday I delivered a half day “Positioning Your Business to Win” workshop at Montrose Port, specifically for Angus Businesses.
Our conversations explored crucial questions like “why customers buy from the” and “what do your customers want/need.”
The workshop was partly funded by reflecting the council’s commitment to supporting local businesses in their growth and success.

Our afternoon workshop is now 50% full. If you are looking to engage more effectively with your customers, then this workshop is for you.
What will I learn?

The Vital Role of Creative Arts in Driving Business Growth

I was recently reminded of the immense value of creative arts skills when I attended a performance of Matilda at Carnoustie High School.
While there is an overwhelming focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects, the crucial role of creative arts in shaping successful businesses is often overlooked.

Creative arts, encompassing visual arts, music, drama and creative writing, cultivate a range of essential skills-creativity, imagination and self expression. These qualities are fundamental for innovation, problem solving and effective communication - all of which are vital for driving sales revenues and growth.

Effective salespeople have the ability to connect with customers on an emotional level, crafting compelling narratives and delivering persuasive presentations. These are precisely the kinds of creative skills that are cultivated through training in the arts.

Unfortunately, these creative arts driven competencies are dwindling in many organisations.
Businesses today need people who can think differently,
communicate persuasively and lead with imagination.
Employers are actively seeking candidates who can combine technical expertise with a creative mindset. By integrating creative thinking into their workforce development strategies, these businesses can position themselves for long term success and growth.

If we want a truly inclusive education system, which captures and harnesses the skills businesses now need, it is crucial that policymakers recognise the equal value of both technical and creative abilities. By investing in the co-development of these complementary skills, educational institutions and businesses can work together to create a pipeline of diverse talent suited to the current needs and demands of businesses.

Both organisations realise they can bring valuable expertise and insights that will benefit local businesses and foster economic development in the Dundee region.

Some potential areas of collaboration that were explored include:

▪️Developing joint training programs or workshops for businesses on topics like sales, strategic bid planning, marketing and communications, operations etc.
▪️Creating internship, placement or job opportunities for university students with local businesses.
▪️Sharing industry contacts and client networks to connect businesses with relevant expertise and resources.

Vertical Motives recently attended the business network event on 6th June at the Glasgow.
The event brought together over 100 business professionals from Scotland and Africa to discuss trade and investment opportunities between the two regions.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from , who provided an overview of ASBN’s mission and upcoming initiatives. We then heard from a range of speakers, topics included - new research from the on business needs and assessing risk when entering the African markets.

After a break to network and chat we had a lively Q & A session, hosted by of ASBN, where the panellists provided valuable insights into the current state of Scotland - Africa trade relations, key sectors of opportunity (such as renewables, energy and digital infrastructure).

The evening concluded with a Ceilidh band and more opportunity to network.

Vertical Motives is excited to announce the launch of a new 10 week Masters Level Sales module, developed in partnership with the Business School.
Starting in September 2024 the module will provide students with a comprehensive and practical education in Modern Sales Strategies and Techniques.

Covering a wide range of topics, the module includes:

▪️Sales Strategy and Planning
▪️Forecasting and Business Growth Pipeline
▪️Effective Communication and Negotiation
▪️Customer Relationship Management
▪️Sales Analytics and Stakeholder Engagement

The weekly face to face workshops will give students the opportunity to develop and hone their sales skills, preparing them for successful careers in a variety of industries.
