Today is a particularly challenging day for many of us at Code 9 Security, as it marks one year since we lost our beloved detection dog, Alfie.

He lived a truly wonderful life, reaching the remarkable age of 15, and enjoyed his retirement just as much as he did his distinguished career in narcotic detection.

Alfie was our very first detection dog and will always hold a special place in our hearts. This photograph perfectly captures what an incredible friend, colleague, and companion he was.

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the sites,
Our officers were vigilant, maintaining the lights;
The protocols were followed with disciplined care,
In the knowledge that Code 9 would always be there.

While families were nestled all snug in their beds,
Our teams were on duty, with comms on their heads;
From the local schools to the Manor House door,
We safeguarded assets, as we’d done before.

When out on the grounds there arose such a clatter,
Our officers responded – protecting what matters.
With drones in the sky and canines at heel,
Technology and tradition, our competitive appeal.

The moon on the crest of the new-fallen snow,
Gave lustre to patrol routes our people well know.
When what to our monitoring screens should appear,
But confirmation that all sites were secure and clear.

Faster than anything, our response teams they came,
And we whistled and shouted and called them by name:
“From Aylesbury! From Basingstoke! From London so bright!
From Salisbury! Southampton! Maintaining the night!”

For while others are resting with family this season,
Our commitment continues – and here is the reason:
Your security doesn’t take a Christmas break,
And neither do we, for our stakeholders’ sake.
To all our clients, from our Code 9 team,
Merry Christmas to all – if you need us just call.

Code 9 Security

This weekend, Code 9 Security's dog section will be on proactive deployment, targeting areas of interest across Hampshire and the Thames Valley. Working together with our patrol and response officers, they will provide a timely responsive capability to deal with alarm events, support colleagues, and attend incidents.

Our proactive deployments allow us to provide a meaningful deterrent and detection capability and deliver industry-leading response times to incidents and priority deployments, achieving over 97.5% in 20 minutes or less.

Over the last few weeks, our dog section has been deployed to several alarm events, reports of hare coursing, and two burglary incidents, where we responded alongside Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary. We have also displaced antisocial car meets for a local authority, had positive engagements with hundreds of people, and provided first aid support a few times.

There are considerable benefits to proactively deploying canine-assisted officers to work alongside more traditional patrol and response security capabilities. Typically deploying with Belgian Malinois, our handlers provide an unmatched capability for post-incident containment, searching and clearing complex buildings or estates, and tracking and intercepting trespassers.

Urban Explorers, on their forum, have commented about the formidable opponent our capability poses and strongly discourage other people from their community from targeting or exploiting sites under our protection.

Further, when we intercept people engaged in criminal offences, we work tirelessly with policing and other partners to ensure they are prosecuted.

Happy Halloween, everyone.

While we know this is a time for fun, costumes and confectionary, it is increasingly important to stay vigilant. Here are some of the things we would recommend...

👻 Be Visible
Equip trick-or-treaters with glow sticks, reflective gear, or flashlights. It’s vital to stay visible to drivers on dark streets.

🚗 Drive Carefully
If you're driving, take your time and be alert to those in costumes that may be more difficult to spot than usual, especially in residential areas.

🏠 Lock Up & Light Up
Leave a light on if you’re home, and keep doors locked, even during high-traffic hours. A well-lit home can deter unwanted visitors. It is a sad fact that some people may take advantage of the occasion to mask their hostile intentions.

🚸 Stick Together
For families and groups, designate a meeting point and stay in groups.

Our team will be out on proactive duties, working alongside other stakeholders, to support the safe and responsible enjoyment of the Halloween traditions while combatting antisocial behaviour and targeting those who use the occasion to carry out hostile acts and take advantage.
