Here is something you might not expect an equity release firm to say: if you would be happy in a smaller home, downsizing is often the cheaper route. Selling releases money with no loan and no interest.

Equity release earns its place when staying put matters more than the cost. If you have decided this is your home, our free calculator gives an indication of what might be possible — a guide, not a formal figure.

Choosing an equity release adviser is an important decision. Asking the right questions can help you understand the advice you’ll receive, the costs involved and whether equity release is right for you.

A few worth asking:

• How are you paid — fees, commission, or both, and how much in pounds?
• Are there circumstances where you would advise me not to take equity release?
• If I decide not to go ahead, what would I owe you?

We’ve put together ten useful questions to ask any equity release adviser — and we’d encourage you to ask us the same ones.

There’s also a free calculator if you’d like an indication of what might be possible.

Wondering how equity release advice is charged? Here’s how we work, plainly.

Your first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Our advice fee — £1,899 — is payable only on completion, once your funds have been received, and other fees such as lender and solicitor fees may also apply. Our advice is based on your circumstances and objectives, including where equity release may not be suitable for you.

“If I take a lifetime mortgage, am I stuck in this house?” It’s one of the most common worries — and the answer is no.

On a plan meeting Equity Release Council standards, you keep the right to live in your home until you either pass away or move into long-term care, and the right to move and take the plan with you to a suitable new property, subject to the plan’s terms and lender criteria. If you move somewhere less expensive you may need to repay part of the loan, and you can usually repay in full at any time (an early repayment charge may apply).

Our short guide explains staying, moving and repaying, in plain English → https://retirementsolutions.co.uk/articles/move-house-with-a-lifetime-mortgage/?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=move_house_lifetime_mortgage&utm_source=chatgpt.com

Yes — a lifetime mortgage doesn’t tie you to one home. How moving, transferring the plan to a new property and repaying work, and what “for life” means.

If equity release makes you nervous, there’s a reason. Some of the old stories describe real problems — with products sold decades ago, before the rules changed.

Today’s product works differently: rates are typically fixed for life, advice is required by law, and plans meeting Equity Release Council standards mean you would never owe more than your home sells for, provided the plan’s terms are met. What hasn’t changed matters too — interest still compounds, and it still isn’t the right choice for many people.

Our honest then-and-now explains the difference, at your own pace → https://retirementsolutions.co.uk/articles/equity-release-then-and-now/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=equity_release_then_and_now

House price headlines can be noisy. Here’s the quieter truth: Nationwide’s July figures show UK prices up 1.8% over the year, and barely a flicker over the month. Steady, not soaring.

If you’re a homeowner over 55 and equity release has crossed your mind, a steady market is background — not a reason to rush. Whether it’s right for you depends on your circumstances, your family, and proper advice. Our guide explains it plainly, at your own pace.

Wanting to help your family financially is one of the kindest things you can do. It’s also worth pausing to weigh your own needs first — a long retirement and possible care costs included. Our new guide explains how the England care means-test works, what “deprivation of assets” means, and why gifting decisions are best made with regulated advice. No pressure, no rush — just clear information to read in your own time.

Equity release reduces your estate’s value and may affect benefits. A lifetime mortgage is secured against your home.

If your mum or dad has mentioned equity release and your first reaction was "hang on" — that reaction is useful, and we'd rather you kept it.

We've written a guide for the family rather than the customer. What's actually changed since the products that earned equity release its reputation. What protects your parent. And the five questions worth putting to any adviser — how they're paid, what the balance looks like in twenty years, what happens if Mum needs care.

Vagueness about fees or any resistance to family involvement are reasons to walk away. From any firm, including ours.
