There is a reason why not only we, but waste management companies across the UK, say NO BATTERIES IN SKIPS ⚠️🔥
Recently, a battery caught alight at the beginning of our recycling process. Thankfully, it was detected in its early stages and dealt with quickly. Had it not been spotted when it was, the consequences could have been catastrophic for our people, our facility and our operations. This is exactly why batteries should never be placed in skips or mixed waste.
Once a battery enters the waste stream, it can be crushed, punctured, or otherwise damaged during collection, tipping, or processing. When that happens, it can ignite without warning, and a small battery can very quickly become a major fire. Unfortunately, incidents like this are becoming increasingly common across the waste and recycling industry.
Battery-related fires are on the rise, putting waste facilities at risk every single day.
