Hi everyone!

I hope you, your families and close friends are all well during the COVID-19 national and global crisis. My name is Jack Wellington and I have finished my intercalated MSc at LSHTM eager to follow a career in neurosurgery and clinical diagnostics. Having observed a lack of diagnostic method teaching, skills and noticing how to differentiate medical conditions of various specialities based on specific clinical findings, results and syndromic presentations, myself and my brother want to embark on starting a novel society / collaborative which focuses on the following fundamentals:

1) The art of diagnosis - when to implement Occam’s Razor or oppose the ‘common things are common’ stratagem and follow Hickam’s Dictum. Through the society, I aim to hold frequent journal club/case group activities to discuss virtual cases in any speciality.

2) Regular revision lectures on a plethora of clinical scenarios and medical undergraduate curriculum, revisiting cases, preclinical and clinical studies and address ISCE / OSCE preparation.

3) Launch novel collaborative research projects with significant results to guide future clinical practice nationally. I aim to develop your CV’s, get those vital PubMed-indexed authorships and build a national student initiative in diagnostic medicine.

4) Give guidance on how to prepare for the USMLE or other specific national clinical/medical exams.

5) Prepare national/international conferences to showcase SSC projects, case reports, articles, original research etc. This will help develop your AFP applications and prepare you for the world of both clinical academia and practice.

If interested in applying for a committee position, please complete this form. If simply interested in being a member, please complete this form.

Committee Roles available:

- Secretary (arranges, relays and manages minutes and admin within the society)

- Treasurer (manages society funds)

- Research and Innovation Lead (manages all research, project and conference details with President; prior research and publication experience required)

- Medical Education Lead (manages all medical education initiatives and affairs associated with regular teaching opportunities; prior medical education experience required)

- Social Media and Promotions Lead (manages all social media accounts and society advertising; prior experience and efficiency in social media required)

- Sub-speciality Leads (to be confirmed)

If interested in leading teaching and research within a specific medical and surgical specialties, please email [email protected] with the speciality your interested in leading and also a CV - no need to fill the last 2 questions

Many thanks and take care throughout these unprecedented times.
