Β£61,000 has been awarded to a former sales manager, ruling that he was unfairly dismissed because of time spent in Egypt...

πŸ“Œ Tanveer Shah was initially dismissed in August 2022, according to employment tribunal documentation published on 19 September 2025.
πŸ“Œ Chief executive Ardian Mula accused Shah at the dismissal meeting of stealing money from the company and β€œillegitimately taking a salary”.
πŸ“Œ The company questioned whether Shah had been carrying out his field-based duties after it emerged he had spent several weeks in Egypt in early 2022. Shah said he had travelled there on holiday and contracted Covid-19, which prevented him from flying back to the UK.
πŸ“Œ Shah appealed the dismissal, which was overturned on procedural grounds, but he was immediately rehired and suspended pending a new investigation. The tribunal found that this second process, which led to another dismissal in September 2022, was heavily influenced by senior management and lacked independence.

What's the lesson? Don't jump to conclusions... always follow dismissal procedures and remain impartial.

πŸ“Œ The customer, Evan Francis, has Fowler’s Syndrome, a urethral sphincter condition, and was barred entry to a disabled toilet until she showed the employee her catheter bag, according to national reports published 18 April 2025.
πŸ“Œ The employee reportedly said: β€œYou're not disabled,” the MailOnline reported.
πŸ“Œ The moment someone is asked to prove their disability, they have been failed, emphasised Martyn Sibley, co-founder of disability-focused marketing agency Purple Goat.
πŸ“Œ He told HR magazine: β€œHR leaders must ensure that frontline staff are trained in empathy, inclusive communication, and the understanding that many conditions, like Fowler’s Syndrome, are invisible but no less valid”.

As of 6th April 2024, employees can request flexible working from the very first day of their employment.

What’s changed:
πŸ“Œ Previously, employees needed to have 26 weeks’ continuous service before making a statutory flexible working request. That requirement has been removed.
πŸ“Œ Employees can now make two formal flexible working requests per year (instead of just one) under the new rules.
πŸ“Œ Employers must respond to requests within two months.
πŸ“Œ If an employer is going to refuse a request, they must consult with the employee first.
