Hot weather tips from professional dog walkers…
Today’s tip: WE DO freeze water in plastic containers. After removing the ice block from the container we rub the dog’s favourite food or treat over the ice so the ice smells of the food. The dog then licks the ice block. Dogs lose heat from their tongues (which is why they pant). Cooling their tongues is effective and they swallow a little of the icy water.
WE DON’T give ice cubes to dogs. They can be a choking hazard.
