TIPS TOHELP YOUR DOG WITH FIREWORK FEAR:

- Make sure your pooch is well exercised in the days leading up to Guy Fawkes night. Ensure this is during daylight hours and long before the fireworks start.
- Ensure you’re calm and relaxed. Your dogs will pick up on your anxiety. Gently reassure them if they come to you for comfort.
- Make sure your dog has freedom to go to their “safe spot”. That might be their crate, basket or any comfortable place where they feel safe and secure.
- Close doors, windows and curtains to reduce noise and flashing lights.
- Very importantly make your house and garden escape proof.

FINAL 2021 PUPPY OBEDIENCE TRAINING COURSE

We’re holding our final basic training course for the year 😢 on 16th, 23rd and 30th October in Lower Slaughter. Our qualified, professional trainer, Pete uses methods of encouragement and reward. This not only teaches essential skills but will also reinforce the relationship between you and your dog.

The course costs £75. As classes are limited to 5 puppies this is subject to availability and works on a first come first serve basis.

The course teaches you the principles and methods of dog training. You’ll learn how to get your puppy’s attention and implement recall and basic commands such as sit, stay, heel and drop (a ball or other item). You'll also find out about loose lead walking (i.e. not pulling) and ignoring distractions.

PUPPY AND DOG OBEDIENCE CLASSES

There are some great puppy and dog training courses coming up which will not only teach essential skills but will also reinforce the relationship between you and your dog.

Each course consists of three classes held on three consecutive Saturdays in Lower Slaughter. A course costs £75 but if you book two of the courses the total cost is £130 (£20 reduction), if you book all three courses the cost is £195 (a reduction of £30). As classes are limited to 5 puppies/dogs this is subject to availability and works on a first come first serve basis.

Here are the details:
Beginner and Basic Training:
This isn’t just for puppies. Often older dogs haven’t learnt the essential skill of being able to focus when being given a command. With that in mind this course covers getting your dog's attention and the principles and methods of dog training. You’ll learn how to implement recall and basic commands such as sit, stay, heel and drop (a ball or other item). You'll also find out about loose lead walking (i.e. not pulling) and ignoring distractions. Much of this is essential for the safety of your dog.
Intermediate and Clicker Training: This involves more advanced skills such as roll over, walking to heel and long stays. Clicker training is highly effective and reduces dependence on treats. You’ll be given ideas on how to provide mental stimulation for your dog as apparent ‘bad behaviour’ can be the result of boredom.
Advanced Training and Mental Stimulation:
This is only available to certain breeds including Collies, Huskies and Malamuts, Retrievers, Spaniels and other dogs that are traditionally bred as working dogs. Your dog will learn to jump through hoops and slalom as well as learning other great manoeuvres. This improves your dog’s balance and co-ordination and working together at an advanced level will further strengthen your relationship with your pooch.

During August and September Happy Pooches will be holding a series of puppy/dog socialisation sessions in Lower Slaughter. The sessions are run by a professional dog trainer. Book and pay for 5 sessions (£15 each session) and you’ll receive a 20% discount.

Sessions are limited to six puppies/dogs and work on a first come first serve basis. The sessions are:

PUPPY SOCIALISATION THIS MONDAY EVENING

Happy Pooches will be holding a Puppy Socialisation session at 6pm on Monday (19th July) in Lower Slaughter.

The session will be limited to 6 puppies and works on a “first come first serve” basis. It will be run by a professional dog trainer and you’ll be given information on how to enhance your puppy’s social skills and general development. The session costs £15 per puppy.

INTERMEDIATE TRAINING COURSE
Happy Pooches are holding a three week training course on consecutive Saturdays at 1.30pm starting on May 15th. We will focus on intermediate level abilities which include distance commands, working dog techniques and engaging with your dog to keep him stimulated with activities. There will also be some quite advanced commands with staying and clicker training. Clicker training teaches your dog to respond to non-food rewards so there is less dependence on treats. All our classes have a degree of flexibility depending on the needs of the dogs and the progress made. Each class Is limited to 5 dogs.
