ALP Synergy is kicking off something big!
Thanks to funding from Nerc: Natural Environment Research Council part of UKRI, we’re delivering two new national projects – Nature Secure and Nature Smart – to spark a passion for nature and environmental action in hundreds of people across the UK, especially those aged 10–25.
Together, these projects will connect diverse communities with nature, build confidence to talk about environmental challenges and inspire real‑world action and future life choices.
At the heart of this work is a simple mission:
Reach the “unusual voices”, not the “usual suspects”
We will work with 30 Community Group Leaders from all backgrounds to co‑create and deliver at least 150 fun, hands‑on workshops and outdoor activities, backed up by youth‑friendly resources, citizen science and national webinars that amplify community voices.
We are excited to be shaping this project with Andrew Tyler Ethny Childs Neil Kelly and others…
There is still room for one or two more brilliant collaborators to get involved. If you have deep experience engaging diverse UK communities (on any topic) and a passion for helping under‑represented groups feel that nature and environmental issues are “for them”, I would love to hear from you. This is a chance to help shape a NERC‑funded national programme and build new, long‑term collaborations that go beyond a single project.
To launch these projects, we are hosting “Every Community Needs Nature – Connecting Beyond the Usual Voices” on Wednesday 15 January, 6–7pm (UK time), and everyone is welcome.
This live, interactive online event will bring together speakers with rich lived experience in widening participation, sharing practical stories, tips and tools for reaching people who are rarely invited into environmental conversations.
Teachers, group leaders, and passionate enthusiasts - If you work on community, health, climate, nature or place‑based projects, or if you have never really engaged with nature or feel you’ve drifted away from environmental issues, this session is for you. Who do you know that should be involved?
Come ready to listen, reflect and contribute, and leave with fresh inspiration, contacts and next steps for making sure every community can help shape a greener, fairer future.
