Important safety update for parents, carers and adults

ChatGPT has introduced new safety features for both adults and teens. Something every parent, carer and adult should be aware of.

1. Trusted Contact

Adults aged 18+ can nominate a trusted contact, such as a friend, family member or another trusted adult.

If ChatGPT detects conversations that may indicate a risk of self-harm, the trusted contact may be notified. The nominated person must accept the invitation within seven days, and notifications are only sent when the system detects potentially concerning conversations.

2. Parental controls for teens

Parents can link their account with their teen’s account and manage features such as image generation, voice conversations and quiet hours.

Parents may also receive notifications if ChatGPT detects conversations that could indicate significant distress or a safety concern.

The aim is simple: when there is a genuine concern, help connect people with real humans and appropriate support.

At Digital Safety, we believe technology should never replace human connection. Especially when someone may be struggling.

🚨 Manchester Airport cyberattack: what can businesses learn?

Manchester Airports Group has confirmed that a cyberattack resulted in customer data being accessed across Manchester, Stansted and East Midlands airports.

Around 8.7 million customers are reportedly affected, with information including email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registrations and postcodes accessed. Importantly, airport operations, aviation security and passenger safety were not compromised.

Harvey our CISO and Alan our Data Protection Officer share their expertise on the situation.

For customers, this is a timely reminder to be especially cautious of phishing emails, texts and calls. Alongside reviewing your privacy settings and re-setting passwords to be unique. If your details have been exposed, criminals may use legitimate-looking information to make scams more convincing.

As cyber threats continue to target organisations of all sizes, good cybersecurity is about prevention, preparedness and resilience.
