Here at Dee Archaeology we are always keen to learn new skills and improve existing ones.

This week we meet up with staff from Cardiff University in Mid-Wales to see a demonstration on the use of cart magnetometers and their potential for future projects. Along with our neighbouring colleagues at Heneb: Clwyd-Powys Archaeology, we spent the morning learning about the pros and cons, and the potential impact this could have on site work. The weather held out and the scenery was stunning, so watch this space.

Finds Friday!

Its that time again and fresh from our site in Cheshire the base of a beautiful Samian Ware dish.
Undecorated Samian vessels were produced in vast quantities and distributed across Britain. Often seen in the forms of bowls dishes and cups, with a makers stamps on the base, sadly our piece is missing this part of the pot.

The next steps for this sherd will be to come back to the office to be processed. This involves washing, cataloguing and assessing the base ready to add into the report along with all the other finds.
