The conversation around “home not hospital” remains as important in 2026 as it has ever been.

For autistic people and people with learning disabilities, long stays in hospital or placements far from home can have a lasting impact on independence, family relationships and quality of life.

At HomeCareDirect, we believe that with the right specialist support, many people can live safely and meaningfully in their own homes and communities.

Through our Genesis Model, we focus on personalised, nurse-led support that helps people move away from restrictive settings and towards familiar routines, trusted relationships and greater choice.

At HomeCareDirect, we are always proud to celebrate the people behind our services, and Kelly’s Half Marathon Challenge is a brilliant example of determination, kindness and community spirit.

Kelly, our Regional Care Lead at Head Office, is taking on the Manchester Half Marathon in support of Sheffield Children’s Hospital, a cause that means a great deal to her both personally and professionally.

As part of her build-up, Kelly will also be taking on the Chesterfield 5K and Ulverston 10K, showing real commitment as she trains, fundraises and raises awareness for the incredible work the hospital does for children and families.

It is a lovely reminder that care extends beyond our day-to-day roles. It is about compassion, community and supporting causes that make a genuine difference.

Some nurses are inspired by a moment that changes everything.

For Penny, that moment came while sitting beside her young daughter in hospital, an experience that shaped a remarkable 17-year nursing career.

Today, as a Queen’s Nurse at HomeCareDirect, Penny continues to lead with warmth, courage, and what she calls her “compassion tank.”
