The VPS Guide to Building Supply Chain Resilience – Step 3: Evaluate Consignment Stock Opportunities

Holding enough critical stock to protect your operation can tie up significant capital.
Consignment stock offers an alternative approach. By holding agreed stock on-site while only paying for what you use, you can improve product availability, reduce financial commitment and ensure critical valves are ready when they're needed.

The VPS Guide to Building Supply Chain Resilience – Step 2: Optimise Valve Inventory & Critical Spares

Finding the right balance between stock availability and inventory costs isn't always straightforward.

An effective valve inventory strategy should consider more than just usage. Criticality, lead times, demand, planned shutdowns and supply risk all play an important role in determining what should be held in stock.

Taking a structured approach helps reduce operational risk while avoiding unnecessary inventory costs.

The VPS Guide to Building Supply Chain Resilience – Step 1: Conduct a Valve Criticality Analysis (VCA)

Not all valves carry the same operational risk. When planning your supply strategy, treating every valve the same can leave critical assets exposed when lead times increase.

A Valve Criticality Analysis helps you identify which valves are essential to safe operation, production continuity and business performance, allowing you to prioritise stock where it matters most. It's the first step towards building a more resilient supply chain.

Experiencing flow control challenges? 🌊 It often comes down to selecting the right valve for the job. With so many valve types available, it's knowing which one to use and where.

At Valve & Process Solutions, we supply a comprehensive range of high-quality valves designed to handle everything from simple on/off duties to critical process control.

Let's take a look at some of the key valve types from our range:

◼️ Ball valve → Uses a rotating ball with a hole through it to quickly stop or allow flow; very reliable for tight shut-off.

◼️ Butterfly valve → Uses a rotating disc to control flow; lightweight and ideal for quickly opening or closing large pipe systems.

◼️ Plug valve → Uses a cylindrical or tapered plug with a hole to control flow; simple design and good for on/off applications.

◼️ Control valve → Automatically adjusts flow, pressure or temperature based on signals from a control system to maintain process conditions.

◼️ Single seat valve → A control valve with one sealing surface, providing tight shut-off and precise flow control.

◼️ Double seat valve → Has two sealing surfaces to balance forces, allowing higher flow capacity but with slightly less tight shut-off.

◼️ Check valve → Allows fluid to flow in one direction only and prevents backflow automatically.

If you’re unsure which valve is right for your application, our team is here to help you specify the right solution. Give us a call on 01246 220 070 or email [email protected] to keep industry flowing.
